Can anyone tell me, what's different about private run prison? Do they have different rules if so what? I'd live to hear from anyone who's been inside. My brother's just gone to prison I want to know what its like

Offence is burglary with intent to commit gbh. He didn't actually harm anyone tho

Err hello..... burglary is a traumatic event... some random knob going through your home and invading your privacy is not nice. And GBH does harm....

GreyStars · 16/02/2017 21:01

Burglary is a fucking traumatic event, it destroyed me.

Your brother intended to commit GBH, and went into someone else's home and destroyed their lives.

jackieeee · 16/02/2017 21:01

2.5 years for burglary and GBH? I think he needs to serve the 2.5 years....sorry op

GreyStars · 16/02/2017 21:01

Please don't minimalise the impact on his victims.

HappyGirl86 · 16/02/2017 21:03

His offender manager will be well on to him to get his sentence plan completed- so he might have to do group work such as the thinking skills programme. Encourage him to complete any programmes he is suitable for. Not only to get his release but to actually help him reduce his risks of re-offending which I'm sure is important to you! And him!
He might also have targets to get some education done or work with drug and alcohol workers. He should have a copy of his sentence plan.
If he has breached a community order it might be hard for him to get early release but it doesn't mean he should give up- he still needs to work on turning his life around. He clearly has your support which is a good thing!

ilovesooty · 16/02/2017 21:07

He's already breached a community order. That doesn't make him a good prospect for a tag. He seems to have been treated relatively kindly by the courts and I'd be more interested in the interventions offered to address reoffending than what you could sent / take in to him.

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 16/02/2017 21:08

Each prison tends to have different rules around what can be sent in. If you ring the prison or ask at the visitors centre when you go to see him they'll be able to advise you.

friskybivalves · 16/02/2017 21:11

OP you need to check with the prison what you can send in to him. Books are no longer banned but magazines are a potential problem as some get smuggled in with their pages sprayed with drugs. Same with stamps.

Has he told you what he wants to spend his money on? It could just be food as what they are given doesn't go far. Breakfast particularly thin fare in many prisons.

Have you been in to visit? How long has he been in this time?

Holly3434 · 16/02/2017 21:16

I don't condone his crime but he's still my brother our parents are no longer alive, I am all he's got he went in last week. Haven't visited yet

Holly if he doesn't have a massive support network on release it might be worth looking at what support/charities he can access on release? Depends where you live but there are lots of Charities that work with ex offenders trying to help them find work, get into education etc...

Don't want to assume but if you have a low income, this also may help
