Remember the recent thread about the elderly man who asked the current owners of his and his wife's previous home if he could bury his wife's ashes in the garden?

It's going to be discussed on Matthew Wright's show this morning Hmm

Actually I can see why. It was an interesting discussion with quite polarizing views. I work for an organisation which manages quite a lot of countryside and we are constantly asked about scattering, memorial trees/benches/plantings/ plaques and also find a lot of memorial bunches of flowers/cards popping up on sites (I guess where people have been scattered in the past). It is quite difficult steering a course bw being suitably sympathetic and ending up with something that looks like a badly maintained garden of remembrance.
How we deal with death and loss as a society is a fascinating topic.

whatsthepointofmorgan · 16/02/2017 10:55

So what.
Who cares where they get the stories from?
They have to get them from somewhere.

RockyBird · 16/02/2017 10:56

Hi Matthew!

Dowser · 16/02/2017 11:05

On now

Liiinoo · 16/02/2017 11:08

I like it when threads I have followed or commented on appear in the media. It makes me feel relevant and part of the zeitgeist, less of an invisible, middle aged woman.

I always change details (ages, areas, dates etc) when I am posting, either as an OP or a commenter to ensure if any of my posts are ever picked up no-one could identify me or the individuals I am talking about.

whatsthepointofmorgan · 16/02/2017 11:11

RockyBird,
definitely not Mathew! not the last time I looked checks down below
Nope, not Mathew. Grin

StarUtopia · 16/02/2017 11:16

I doubt the elderly widow is watching The Wright Stuff!!!

Bambambini · 16/02/2017 11:17

There's been a few things i've wanted to post about but haven't because they are too identifying and sometimes serious.

alltouchedout · 16/02/2017 11:19

I used to really quite like him and then one day they were discussing pornography and a woman called in and said she opposed it entirely as all porn was harmful to women. He wouldn't even hear her out or discuss it, just snapped "rubbish" in a really shitty and dismissive tone, and ended the call and made a stupid wanky arrogant mansplaining twat face with a bit of an eye roll. I don't even agree with the woman who called in but ever since I have hated Matthew Wright and on the rare occasions I am forced to watch his crap programme I just mutter abuse at him. Stupid little git.

NotJanine · 16/02/2017 11:21

They have no interest in checking if their stories are actually true?

I've never seen the programme, don't know what it is.

Bambambini · 16/02/2017 11:29

They don't claim they are true, they are talking about a discussion on mumsnet.

NotJanine · 16/02/2017 11:32

oh, ok. I thought you meant they were running it as a 'news' story.

So the programme just discusses what people are posting on online forums?

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2017 11:35

They just discussed it with the panel and a few people rang in. They acknowledged it was a MN thread, and it was all fine.

limitedperiodonly · 16/02/2017 11:37

So what? If anyone is worried about the widower's feelings perhaps they should have said so at the time. For all we know, his daughter might come on Mumsnet and have seen her parents being discussed on here. The OP didn't need to ask MN's opinion. She could have talked about it with her family and friends or even come up with her own view all by herself.

booklooker · 16/02/2017 11:39

I really don't understad why some MNers object to current affairs programmes looking at some of the issues that come up on here.

What is the problem?

WannaBe · 16/02/2017 11:41

Don't see the big deal. It's a genuinely interesting point of discussion, who cares whether it was previously discussed on MN or somewhere else.

If people don't want to be identified from what they post on the internet then don't post identifyable information on public forums such as MN. It's not rocket science.

Personally I think all the threads talking about how dare x and y tabloid/programme talk about what people have already posted on public websites such as this one far more annoying than the fact that posts are lifted from here in the first place.

And IMO most of the sensitive ones are made up anyway, probably by the people who then post them elsewhere as they generate discussion.

The one that appeared in the sun yesterday turned out to be a PBP. Still generated a lot of discussion on the Sun though so win win all round for them.

limitedperiodonly · 16/02/2017 11:43

How are you forced to watch Matthew Wright? Is it like that scene from A Clockwork Orange where Alex is strapped to a chair with his eyelids clamped open?

WorraLiberty · 16/02/2017 11:44

They have no interest in checking if their stories are actually true?

Personally I think most of the stories that end up on Matthew Wright's show, This Morning and in the Daily Mail are made up by their own researchers/reporters anyway.

MN is the perfect place to plant a thread anonymously and then run to you boss with it, proudly saying "Look what I found. Let's get this on the show".

I fully agree in general, except in this case the widower didn't have much of a say in the matter did he? Or didn't you see the original thread?

limitedperiodonly · 16/02/2017 11:48

Really itsmine? I didn't stick around for that long but it doesn't surprise me.

bulletjournal · 16/02/2017 11:50

except in this case the widower didn't have much of a say in the matter did he?

that exactly!

ProfessionalPirate · 16/02/2017 11:51

itsmine I've just realised I didn't stick around for the full thread at all, only read to the bit where she was still deliberating what to do. Sounds a bizarre sequence of events!

freelancegirl · 16/02/2017 11:51

There is also the possibility that MN want stories from here to make the press - Matthew Wright and Daily Mail included - because it's good for publicity which ultimately helps fund the site. It's not great when it's your story of course.
