Is the one way mirrored door in my hotel room the wrong way around?

Am staying in a boutique hotel in Amsterdam. Not in the red light district, in a nice and quite upmarket neighbourhood and a normal hotel - am staying with dh and dd. It's not a sexy style hotel, more industrial chic with bare brick feature walls.
BUT there is a mirrored door on the toilet (same in both of our rooms) so that from inside the toilet the whole door is a mirror, but from the bedroom you can see right through the mirrored door when someone is on the toilet.
Can this be right?????

I stayed in a hotel in the Netherlands like this last year. I think it's the "right" way round - just rather weird.

I've stayed on a hotel where the back of the bathroom door was a mirror - was a bit strange watching myself on the toilet! When I got up in the night to go to the loo in the dark I almost had the screaming ab-dabs when I sat down and caught sight of the person in the mirror - happened every time, I didn't learn.

Surely the right way around would be that you can see out when sat on the toilet but that nobody could see you on the toilet from outside?

I stayed in a hotel in Paris where the bathroom door was just transparent glass. I made DH stand in a particular corner of the bedroom when I went to the loo!

A relation of my exh had a slatted door on their bathroom, which contained the only loo in the house. The bathroom was at the top of the stairs and the lavatory was opposite the door so anyone walking up the stairs would get the full view of anyone sitting on the loo.

Needless to say I never ever did a wee in their house.

We (me and a number of extended family members) stayed in a hotel in the Hertfordshire area a few years ago. I had a room with a bath just in the room opposite the bed. The toilet was in a cupboard. That was sort of OK.

My parents however, were more unfortunate. They had a room with the bath, toilet and sink in the actual room. No screen, no curtain, nothing. My poor mum was having to traipse to my room to use the toilet.

'Twas truly bizarre.

We had this in a hotel in Munich. There was a switch on the door that turned the door opaque. Is there one on your door?

My husband and I stayed in a hotel in Liverpool where the bathroom was a glass box in the middle of the bedroom. Was a bit strange.

I stayed in an open plan hotel room in Belgium! A large square room with a toilet in one corner and a small screen in front of it, so you were only covered if everyone in the room gathered behind the screen

Surely no one would actually want a toilet in their room. That is disgusting.

The bathroom in a glass box thing seems to be a big trend in hotels. Maybe because it's easier than installing a proper bathroom? There's no need to build walls!

We had this in a hotel in NYC. You could see right into the shower, which was alright for amorous couples I suppose. Bit embarassing to be shaving your legs while your partner watches TV.

Thats just reminded me of a hotel dh and I stayed in in Dubai, that had a massive window separating the room from the bathroom! You could press a button and a blind opened across the window...

I've just been looking for a switch to make the door opaque....I haven't found one but I have discovered that if I am in the toilet with the light off o. The toilet but on outside the toilet then nobody can see in and I can see out! So that is the way to go I think

I wouldn't have a problem if it was just DH in the room. If it's a hotel that do family rooms or add put up beds in for the kids then I'd have a problem. My kids are at an age where they want privacy so I'm not sure what we'd do in that situation!

I do still think it's weird though, why on earth would they put a 2 way mirror on any door/wall, let alone the toilet?!

I had a hotel room in Cambodia that was pretty standard except the wall nest to the bath was clear glass so that anyone in the room could see you in the bath or on th loo. It did have curtains though. I'd post a pic but I was much fatter then.

Use a skirt/trouser hanger with a pillow case or towel attached to it and hang on the door frame.

There's a budget hotel in Stoke we stayed in a few times. The toilet door is frosted glass but you can see straight through. There's no lock or catch, not even a proper door frame so the door swings open. They said they bought the hotel off a European company who have toilet doors like this in all their hotels.

Usually the lock on the bathroom door makes it opaque.

We stayed in an upmarket hotel in Spain where the bathroom was behind the headboard. The toilet and showers both had doors separating them from the sink area however they were lightly frosted glass with a 30cm opening at the bottom and over a meter opening at the top. Needless to say we both went to the pool or bar or locked ourselves on the balcony when we needed a number 2
