AIBU to think making phone calls in the toilet is weird?

In my office we have a lot of contractors from other countries, and it seems to be a daily thing where they'll go into the toilets to make phone calls (presumably to friends/family as they are speaking their own language).

Is it just me or is the toilet a really weird choice? I find it really annoying. I'm trying to tinkle and I've got people shouting down the phone in the next stall over!

I've been trapped in toilets for several hours waiting to fart. In the end I had to roll up a cardigan and use it to muffle the sound.

Top tip! Pull your bum cheeks apart Wink it's not very dignified but it's better than using a cardi!

foxyloxy78 · 15/02/2017 18:45

We had contractors at work who did the same. Very odd and really quite gross. Just tell them to shhh!!

fruitbats · 15/02/2017 18:46

never couldn't you have farted into some rolled up toilet roll? Confused 😐 😂

Saltpot3 · 15/02/2017 18:46

But has anyone ever been on the phone to you whilst they are on the toilet though? I called a business contact on his mobile. He started the call quite normally, then I heard a door go, then a bit of silence, then he said: 'aaaaah that's better' and carried on the conversation while he obviously flushed the loo. I suddenly realised he'd carried on talking to me whilst having a crap. I was so appalled I just put the phone down and did not call him ever again. He lost business because of it.

Smidge001 · 15/02/2017 18:49

Confused Were you dressed by the time you farted into your cardigan? Or are you saying you were sitting on the loo, and you rolled up your cardigan and held it by your bare bottom/covering up the gap between bum and the back of the seat to muffle the noise? Shock
I am truly baffled!! Grin. Your second explanation didn't make this any clearer to me.

abbsisspartacus · 15/02/2017 18:51

Never, use the toilet roll not your cardigan!

Although I have a few bowel issues and in the early days let one out so loud it echoed Blush fortunately it wasn't smelly so I worked out the loo roll trick to muffle the sound

Doodiidoo · 15/02/2017 18:52

Laughing so hard as farting into a cardi! Grin

RuggerHug · 15/02/2017 19:10

Any chance she meant put cardi at the end of the door to block the noise? PLEASE!!!!
I once worked for someone who when I was doing my make up at sink, walked in typing on blackberry, went into cubicle, peed, left without washing hands TYPING THE ENTIRE TIME!!!! Envy

I do the hand dryer thing too.

There are various places to make phone calls - my office has at least 3 mostly empty stairwells that are very handy, plus various meeting rooms, seating areas. Why use the toilet? It's weird.

Top tip! Pull your bum cheeks apart

Does this work? [agog]

PonderLand · 15/02/2017 19:59

SapphireStrange
It was my go to method for bedtime during the first few years with DP.

I hate this!

The only thing that is worse is bumping into a colleague on the way into the toilets, you proceed into your separate cubicals. And they start a conversation with you... above the sound of your synchronised piss streams.

Thinking about it, I would rather them be on their phones than talking to me!

SapphireStrange · 16/02/2017 10:32

Thanks Ponder.

I think I've genuinely heard it all now. Grin

Loads of people did it at my old work but only because we weren't supposed to use mobile phones at work. Generally if people saw someone else come on they would either quickly end the call or stand in the hallway bit between the two doors.

CryingShame · 16/02/2017 10:47

The students where I work do this as well. Why speak on the phone to the sound of someone peeing or unwrapping a sanitary towel in the background? I'm not convinced that what you need to talk about is so important that it can't wait until you're out and have dried your hands.

waiting for a student to complain she's dropped her phone down the loo in our area and what are we going to do about it

Beeziekn33ze · 16/02/2017 10:49

neverknowinglyunreasonable. Thank you for the rofl! 😂
I'm not sure that your name is appropriate 😂

jay55 · 16/02/2017 11:02

Was my pet hate at my old office where there were only 2 stalls, one was always being used as a phone box and so there was always a wait to pee. Grrrrrrrr
