to think that The Jump (TV show) is sexist (as well as dangerous!)

For those who don't know The Jump is a Ch 4 reality TV show featuring celebs in various winter sports events. The format is that the lowest scoring in the winter events for the week are eliminated by participating in a ski jump. Shortest jump is eliminated.

Ski Jumping is partly technique but substantially speed and power (you have to push off at the point you leave the ramp to get lift).

I fully accept that in the early stages, a competent woman will be able to out jump a competent man.

But the bottom line is that a good male jumper will always out jump a good female jumper.

The current world record for a man is about 250m and for a woman 200m - and those are the best in the world. Consistently the women jump shorter than the men.

AIBU to think that the show is sexist because - unless there is some sort of handicap system - in the later stages (once the incompetent are eliminated) the best man will generally always beat the best woman?

All three past winners have been men, all three past runners up, also men.

Of course its sexist in that sense.

I don't really care though, more fool them for going on the stupid dangerous sexist thing in the first place!

I wonder why this year has attracted so many big names, despite the well publicised carnage last year. They can't have been ignorant about what they were getting into. If say Jade Jones comes a real cropper, it could finish her career and she's only 23.

Yes, I can't believe they could get the insurance cover for this year after what happened to Tina Hobley. It must be at astronomical cost, but obviously worth it.

But maybe a female rugby player would be just as good in this event? My sister plays rugby for her country and would have no qualms about flinging herself down that track and into other competitors if it meant winning! Maybe the difference is sportspeople vs 'normal' celebrities?

Besides it was a man who did the worst jump this week and was eliminated!
