To be pissed of that school expect everyone to be able to download an app?

Our school has just changed so that the newsletter is delivered via an app.

I just tried to download it and my old iphone won't let me. It says I need to upgrade to Ios 8 or something.

What am I meant to do?

Have you explained to the school that you need another form of communication?

Bangintune - Not if you have a sim only contract (we all have sim only as they are much cheaper) or a PAYG phone.

The biggest techies I know (including someone who used to create and code computer games) are very anti-Apple. And some people disagree with smartphones on ethical grounds, which are substantial (there is one company doing an ethical smartphone).

A "free" upgrade is not actually free - the handset might be free but you pay by having to sign a length contract involving monthly fees that can be higher than if you'd purchased the phone and a sim contract separately. MSE crunched the numbers, it's on their site somewhere.
