To think that I cannot find decent trousers for work?

I like skirts but prefer trousers. However, buying trousers for work is becoming a nightmare. Can someone please direct me to a website that has normal trousers for women?

The length is either too short or too long. I don't have the time to take them up. All trousers are non washable. And they are either wide and non flattering or skinny and non flattering.

I do have lovely trousers bought last year and wanted to update, but the styles on offer now are ridiculous. I don't want to wear heals with sandals in the middle of winter. I would like trousers to fit properly. I'm working, not going out for a New Year's Eve bash.

I would like a good pair for under £50. Should I just go buy from the men's selection?

I bought my last pair from Tesco! Admittedly it was a while ago now as we wear uniform now.

Just go into Dorothy Perkins. Primark does black trousers too, the slim bootcut seems to be similar to what youre looking for?

I'm struggling as well. I refuse to spend a lot on clothes for work and I eventually found a reasonable pair in Tesco. I buy my jeans in Wallis but their trousers come up a totally different size. Next stuff stretches and looks awful after a couple of wears so I'm at a loss apart from Tesco.

I have some good ones from H&M, they wash well and are ankle length and slim not skinny. Dog tooth and plain black.

Cos also have some good ones and occasionally M&S.

Gap?

FarAwayHills · 11/02/2017 18:38

YANBU OP I am having the same struggle. Next used to be my go to for work trousers but now their regular length seems to require wearing heels or doing alterations. M&S sizing is odd and fit is just not right. I just want some grey, black, navy basic trousers for work is is too much to ask. Grrrrr

Next! They even do decent maternity work trousers which NOWHERE else does as i have recently discovered.

I bought a pair of black trousers in Tesco last Easter and they fitted perfectly. A bargain at £12.00. But this was while I was with my mum in Northern Ireland! The hem came down before I was about to go out to work after Xmas. Luckily, I know how to hem quickly. They are what they are and are beginning to look shabby. I have a dark and a light grey pair that are suitable. I like black though. Unfortunately, my other black trousers are now too small.

I just bought some trousers from Gap and John Lewis, both under £50. The material and cut were horrendous to be honest. They have both gone back.

I'm not allowed to wear skinny trousers/jeans at work and no leggings. Smart and professional is the code.

I've ordered some from Debenhams today. I can never get my size in my local stores, so have to order anyway.

I feel everyone's frustration.

I can't see good ordinary trousers online in Next. It's not the best website to navigate.

Posted too soon.

I get my son's clothes from Next, he's 15, and he loves them.

I have several pairs of Hobbs trousers, none of which I dry clean. Cool wash, hang them up, they're fine.

MojhitoSparkle · 11/02/2017 19:30

I have trouble finding trousers for work too.i don't like wearing heals or ballet pumps in winter, and so many look daft with my black ankle boots that I wear to work. However I recently found THE BEST trousers in Wallis. About £20 or £30, machine washable. I got a skinny pair and a normal pair. Comfiest work trousers I've ever had.

n0ne · 11/02/2017 19:34

I get all my work trousers from H&M. They machine-wash brilliantly and rarely need ironing, and are very reasonably priced without looking cheap and shiny. They have a good amount of stretch in them so they fit properly, and are the right length for me at 5'3" but I have a long bottom half for my height so would do for any average-height woman.

bbcessex · 11/02/2017 19:36

Agree that the next website is terrible.

I do use Next, M&S or house of frazer mostly for work.

Can you do a huge online order to try on at home then send back the rejects?

travailtotravel · 11/02/2017 19:37

When I find trousers i like, I buy two pairs for just this reason. It's beyond frustrating. I found a pair in M&S last time but like a PP had to take about 30 pairs into the changing room with me and just work through them. I lost the will, but did get something in the end.

MrsTarzan1 · 11/02/2017 19:37

I find the same. I have tried 4 pairs from next, all thin material and horrible quality and fit.

I'll try M&S next I think

seesensepeople · 11/02/2017 21:31

Good luck with the Debenham's ones, they wear and wash well so I hope you get on with them.

MEgirl · 12/02/2017 00:13

I recently bought from Debenhams. Meant to go back and get a second pair. Monsoon also have some decent trousers in different shapes and lengths.

Believeitornot · 12/02/2017 00:14

My favourite work trousers were from HM. Loved them.
