I have been waiting all week to (re) join a well known weight loss group today. Well, we're here and I'm dreading it. I've been on or off for the last 10 yrs, and sadly I'm at my biggest ever Confused

I started after DS2, and I feel it's to blame for my messed up problems with food. Before I started, I had never dieted and ate what I wanted. I weighed around 8.5 stone before, always. I now weigh 13stone, and rapidly gaining.
I'm sick of it.

Am I right, and should never have started in the first place? Or am I a greedy fucker, and just need to follow a plan correctly?
Also would I be unreasonable to start my own common sense eating support thread?

The key is to understand that your body is your friend. When I realised this, quite recently, a wave of good feeling went through me. My body is my friend, not my enemy. I have battled with my weight all of my life since adolescence. I have been every size from 10 to 20. I will never diet again. I will always try to eat healthily and eat less of the bad stuff.

I'm with OhCrepe! Lost a stone so far after resetting my relationship with food using Paul McKenna's app. Had lost the joy of cooking and eating too, and it's now back with a vengeance - made tagine, kofte and some Korean dishes this week. Had chocolate and cake. Still lost 2lb. Most importantly, I feel liberated from the constant guilt and secret eating bollocks.

Re the midnight snacking - this does sound like the mindless eating. I felt that I had to make more of a mental connection between what I was eating and it's effects on my body - e.g. If I eat this cake it is x calories and I haven't exercised today and ate crisps with lunch - that's not an unhealthy mindset but it's just being aware of what goes in your mouth and also the exercise you do.

I think it's easy to have binges and then get into a downward spiral of 'what does one more biscuit matter' etc but the reality is you are the one in control and just because you had a treat of 2 biscuits doesn't mean you have to eat a whole pack.

It takes willpower at first but honestly becomes second nature after a while.

OP I really couldn't say whether it might make you obsess more. It's so personal. I do have to roughly plan what I'm eating each day and I have certain 'set' meals I repeat. I can't be arsed with always being super creative. I would say, though, that tracking everything makes me obsess less. I know exactly how many calories I've had and feel in control. Before I started using the app I probably obsessed more because I had no real idea and therefore EVERYTHING made me feel guilty. The app just becomes part of your routine after a while and you become familiar with calorific content etc. You do have to learn not to beat yourself up if you go over your calories though. I had half a pack of jaffa cakes and two wispa bars last night. Not ideal, but I will be on track today and won't let it get me down. Easier said than done, but it's a really important hurdle to get over.

OP you probably would obsess over food for a bit - but not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps just become more aware.

This is all really helpful, thank you MNetters!
I will start a thread on this, as I said - best place? I've been on MN for years, just tend to stick to a few boards though.
