Surely there should be a sofa that will fit through a narrow doorway

I am at the end of my tether searching for a sodding sofa that will come apart and fit through a 26 inch wide doorway.

I have a Nabru sofa but it is not massively comfortable and we need another really.

I just need something that the arms/back come off.

I have phoned a few big retailers and they all say 'pick a sofa and we will tell you if the arms come off.' They can't give me a list of sofas that will fit.

I am sick of trawling through sofa websites so am hoping for some help from somebody somewhere before I scream!

I know this is a first world problem. But with only 1 sofa visitors have to sit on dining chairs while I bore them half to death with moaning about not being able to find another sofa...

Chesterfields are designed to go through narrow doors

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 10/02/2017 20:10

We bought a couple of sofas from a company called intosofa, not sure if they still exist but they come apart completely although you wouldn't know it to look at them. Great quality.

This is useful if you don't go down the modular route: en.allexperts.com/q/Moving-Furniture-2016/

This guy is a removals man and knows (if you give the measurements) whether it will go through the door or not. Genius.

I'm waiting on someone collecting our old sofa, we have narrow doors and sofa is only 58cm high, so on it's back would and does easily fit

Unfortunately we got it second hand so not sure where it's from originally

Reminded of this... m.youtube.com/watch?v=QcnogXICTeA

Shame you're not local with a van, we've been let down today, have our new one in, and are desperately trying to give it away now!

Mu123 · 10/02/2017 20:39

Ah god i feel your pain, trying to order fil a new sofa. Stupid narrow doors and just spent a fortune on new windows after a fire. Wish id thought bout it before the windows were put in

DailyFaily · 10/02/2017 20:53

We have a halo sofa which has detachable arms

CerealShopper · 10/02/2017 21:10

I had to knock the door jamb off our lounge door frame to get the new sofa in!

Nicketynac · 10/02/2017 22:09

We ordered one from dfs that came in parts and would be assembled by the delivery men... Only for them to pre-assemble it at the warehouse to save time. Don't know who was angrier, us or the delivery men.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/02/2017 23:08

We had this one from next, the entire L section comes off, and if it's the same one the back is lower than it looks (it sits quite a bit lower than the cushions) and the feet come off.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 10/02/2017 23:16

Multiyork sofas are quite expensive but they come to bits and the delivery men reassemble them. I got them in through a very tight bend and a narrow door.

AnnL123 · 30/09/2018 00:11

Please can you tell me if you got a sofa? My doors are 27” too and I’m still looking for one, I want to scream🤦🏻‍♀️ Thank you. X

AllyMcBeagle · 30/09/2018 01:29

I would really recommend Ikea @AnnL123. They all come in boxes which will easily fit through narrow doorways. Me and DH just put together an Ikea sofa bed this afternoon. You might have to spend an hour or so putting them together (or I suppose pay someone to do it for you) but the door issue shouldn't be a problem.

BlueParsley · 30/09/2018 01:53

I recently ordered from DFS and it fit through my very narrow doors with almost no problem - they put it together for me once they were inside. Asking in store might be your best bet.

This is what I have for size comparison if it helps (although I didn’t even pay half of what they’re now charging!): m.dfs.co.uk/cayanne/cyn23aaac?dclid=CPz0x8TB4d0CFSI10wodA5QApg&device=%7Bdevice%7D&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2oj9vcHh3QIVa7XtCh2cPQJmEAQYBiABEgLMkfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&medium=PLA&partner=google&source=google&utm_adinsight=DFS%20Search%20%7C%20Shopping&utm_campaign=Shopping&utm_term=PLA-e#0f3PiGfZA28yHBro.97

Sofa.com do a range of break down able sofas for exactly this reason.

crapette · 19/02/2020 18:17

We have an IKEA sofa (sorry, not sure which type)

We had to assemble it when we first bought it, but we also had a very wide barn door so it would have fitted easily if pre-built. We moved house and got it in fine through another massive double door then realised that all of the internal doors were narrow stone openings.

It sat in the dining room for ages until I remembered that I had put it together in the first place.

I dismantled it and moved it to its proper place. OH was working away and when he got home I let him stew for ages on how I had done this by myself Grin

Ring SofaSofa - they are lovely and so helpful. They make all their own stuff so they will be able to tell you what is suitable.
