i AM sick. Nasty sinusy cold that has done the rounds. was off yesterday but that was my official day off. Wednesday started ok but by the end of the day i was struggling.

I feel pretty shitty but i suppose i could drag myself in if absolutely necessary. Staffwise they should be ok as there are two of my equivalents in. So the impact will be minimal the lazy fuckers who treat friday a bit like a loaf while i take up the slack might have to actually do some work for a change

i don't know what to do. job is physically demanding and snotting and snivelling all day is not great. Im sore all over (paracetamol will help) but so congested and fuzzy headed. Tend to feel worse as the day goes on.

Other staff members have been off with this. I have had one day off sick since i started FT in june. Got a rep for toughing things out.

Wwyd?

They're called "sick days" or "sick leave" for a reason. So that when you are, you know, actually ill, you can take time off work to rest, recuperate, let your body do its thing fighting the bug and get better.

You're sick! Just because taking some paracetamol may make you feel better, you're still sick. The job is physically demanding, you are sore and fuzzy headed and therefore not in the best head space for any sort of decision making - so take the day off. Hell, take a few more days off.

Rest, recover, get better! And then go into work. Happy in the knowledge that you aren't giving it to anyone else.

Recipe for getting better:
1 lemon and 1 orange
Whisky
Honey
Hot water

Chop lemon and orange, put in heatproof glass or mug. Cover with whisky and leave to steep while kettle boils. When kettle boiled, top up mug with hot water and add honey to taste. Drink. Repeat as required :-)

Decongestants, nasal spray and even nasal rinse are your friends for situations like this.
Get some antiviral hand foam and cough suppressant from the chemists while you're there & you'll be better prepared for next time.
Colds are common and many - sometimes it's a case of just finding the right drugs to ease the symptoms so you can get on with things.
Tyrozets are great for a sore throats too btw.

I used to be responsible for calculating the Bradford Score for staff and it was harsh as some people who were off sick due to a recurring condition would come out bad (odd days off sick are worse than long periods). Not sure how your company work out sick but from the way you are concerned I would imagine that the place is hot on absenteeism. I wouldn't worry though as you are genuinely unwell and feel it would impact your work, its much better to take today to recover and call in sick. We are not machines (although even they can go wrong) hope you feel better soon Op and try not to worry about it.

doubt they have heard of the bradford score! is that like the Bristol stool chart? Wink. It's a veterinary practice so thankfully not too corporate.

Going to fix myself up with ginger lemon and honey. I can't tolerate decongestants for some reason but maybe a nasal spray might help. i prefer to let my body fight it's own battles. Sudafed as a very last resort if it hangs around til monday

Bosses are understanding and would prefer us to not spread germs but as a small team it can cause issues. Thankfully Friday tends to be quieter (not always) and mire people in so hopefully they wont notice im gone.

Its more guilt and worrying about letting folk down than anything.

Having got out of bed though i know i wouldn't have managed a 10 hr shift on my feet all day.

Brew

enjoying some rare peace and quiet. dd at school dp at work (albeit in the shed/workshop) there is just me and my dogs and NO tv Grin
