To wonder why CBBC broadcasts all day long...?

...When children are supposed to be in school?

Am I missing something? Are the programmes intended to be watched AT school or they just for children who happen to at home ill/in hospital?

It's a godsend when it's the Scottish school holidays cos in the olden days if Scotland was off and England wasn't we would all be watching take the high road and the sullivans

MrsJayy · 09/02/2017 19:16

stoorie we had nothing to watch till july tut

StoorieHoose · 09/02/2017 19:52

Aye then we missed all the stuff that aired at the end of August !

SaltyBitch · 09/02/2017 20:03

Don't forget students. Loved a bit of CBBC over my supernoodles.

Serialweightwatcher · 09/02/2017 20:04

When I used to be off school poorly many moons ago there were always programmes on during the day - finger bobs, trumpton, camberwick green, picture box etc etc - I used to love having a day off Grin

IneedmoreLemonPledge · 09/02/2017 20:05

I hadn't even thought of kids in hospital wanting a bit of comfort telly during the day...

It's worth paying the licence just for that.

HelenaGWells · 09/02/2017 21:48

It will be reruns during the day mostly. Kids could be off sick, some are home educated and we have school holidays. They don't change the broadcast schedule when it's summer.

LastnightaDJ · 09/02/2017 21:51

Kondo ! Do not diss Take The High Road!

elliejjtiny · 10/02/2017 09:52

I remember watching going for gold, followed by neighbours when I was ill at home. Sat on the sofa eating Heinz tomato soup and toasty soldiers Grin.

There must be a market for it otherwise it wouldn't be on. There will be lots of children not in school for whatever reason, plus I'm sure there will be some adults who have learning difficulties who will be watching too.

My ds4 spends a lot of time in hospital so I'm sure we'll be glad of cbbc in school hours when he gets too old for cbeebies.

Buddahbelly · 10/02/2017 10:07

I wish I had had cbbc all day long, If I was off sick or if I came home for dinner I would wait patiently for CITV to come on, think it was shown just after this morning, they had an hour at dinner time of things like Puddle lane/ Rosie & Jim or some programme with 2 trolls who lived in a well at the bottom of a ladies house. I remember crying at the fact it wasnt on 1 day due to a budget announcement Blush

I used to love being sick as I got to go to my grandmas and she had cable tv, I used to watch all old comedies on UK Gold (still do sometimes if im missing her house as it takes me back to lying on the couch whilst she sat reading near me). Until she'd come in and take over with her American cooking programmes.

x2boys · 10/02/2017 10:13

i used to love a bit of'take the high road 'and' the sullivans' on sick days how and when did 'take the high road end' anyone know?

sparechange · 10/02/2017 11:30

I bet Brexit wouldn't have happened if Going for Gold was still on TV...

BurnTheBlackSuit · 10/02/2017 11:39

I also have a Challenge/old 80s quiz shows/Takeshi's Castle loving child!!

Does anyone remember 5 to 11? It used to come on BBC after the children's programs finished in the morning. I could still sing the theme tune. No idea what the program was about, but we used to at least watch the opening titles to avoid having to turn off the tv. When it wasn't 5 to 11, it was the cricket, so I can hum the BBC cricket theme tune too :)

BurnTheBlackSuit · 10/02/2017 11:49

Hmmm. From YouTube it would appear the theme for 5 to 11 didn't have any words, so I think I am remembering the words my sister and I made up for it!

maddiemookins16mum · 10/02/2017 11:51

I remember Rainbow at noon when off sick, followed by heinz tomato soup, Pebble Mill at One and Crown Court.
.

MagicMoments22 · 10/02/2017 12:04

Some programmes are on and can be taped and watched later - the bitesize GCSE stuff was on overnight. I used to tape it for later use. Ive seen teachers do the same for daytime programmes

SalemSaberhagen · 10/02/2017 12:38

buddah the Riddlers!

ArcheryAnnie · 10/02/2017 15:51

Ineedmorelemonpledge while the court and cases in Crown Court weren't real, the verdict was - they didn't script that! I know because a friend's mum wrote one of the cases, and she was on tenterhooks as to which way the (fake) jury would decide.

salem Thankyou! I wish id seen your reply earlier, I spent around an hour trying to sing the theme tune for dp to jog his memory Blush

MargotLovedTom1 · 10/02/2017 20:27

I have memories of there being loads of kids' TV on when I was little and off school sick - Mr Ben, Bod, Fingerbobs, Bagpuss, Me & You (?), Mr Men. My mother was hooked on Sons & Daughters; I can still remember the theme tune now.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 13/02/2017 18:17

and a country practice , back in the day when they first started showing Neighbours it used to be on at stupid times something like 9 in the morning and 1pm it took ages for the BBC to realise that a nation of school children were deliberatly pretending to be sick so they could stay home and watch Neighbours untill the changed it too the evening slot.
