To wonder about napkins and their placement

Out for dinner with a couple of female friends tonight. Nice local independent bistro type place. Great food. When starters arrive one friend unfolds her napkin and tucks it into her shirt collar like a bib.

I was a bit Hmm. Surely napkins are meant to go on your lap unless you're under the age of 3 or eating something incredibly messy?

On lap but still folded, according to the twerp who writes for The Mail.
Your friend must have thought she was Mr Creosote...

On lap. They look stupid as bibs.

Yes, folded (or at least, a semblance of folding), not worn like a blankie over your legs.

Most grateful I've been for a napkin - dropping a piece of beetroot into my lap on my wedding day.

Perhaps it's a favourite top and she knows she's tempting fate by planning to order the spaghetti Bol.
Chill Hyacinth...

Wasn't spag bol she was eating. Not the first time she's done this, it just seems a really odd thing to do when in a busy restaurant and nobody else has a napkin worn like a bib.

Still, it was a lovely night and the food was very good.

Does she also hold her knife like a pen?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 08/02/2017 23:15

does she do it with other people? Or do you eat and talk with your mouth open ??

AlmostAJillSandwich · 08/02/2017 23:21
