Does anyone know what body fat percentage they are?

And if so do you feel fat/ lean etc with it? Had mine measured and to be honest I think even though I'm not big I'm quite "high fat low muscle" and it said 22% which sounds a lot but apparently is in the normal range. Just wondering how it compares to others.

heavenscent86 · 06/02/2017 23:02

15.5% apparently

VibrantAmI · 06/02/2017 23:36

I am 36â„… body fat. At 10st 8lbs, I am about half a stone overweight by BMI. I exercise 3 times a week. I ran 17km yesterday! I don't think I look 36â„… body fat (except for my big boobs).

80sMum · 06/02/2017 23:50

Mine's 27%, down from a high of 30%.

I had mine measured by a health professional a couple of years ago and the measurement (30%) agreed exactly with the reading on my Tanita scales at the time, so they do seem to be quite accurate.

I was told that at 30% I was carrying too much fat and should try to reduce it to 25%.

I am 5' 3" and currently 8st 9 lbs, so not particularly 'fat' in appearance, but I do nonetheless still have too much of it!

FlopIsMyParentingGuru · 06/02/2017 23:54

How do they work it out and is there anywhere cheap that I can get this done please?

PickAChew · 06/02/2017 23:56

No fucking clue, but despite "healthy" BMI, I'm definitely on the soft side.

EZA15 · 06/02/2017 23:57

MaidofStars I've never understood how to correctly use calipers? Is it just a case of grabbing your fat with said calipers and looking what the number says?!

steff13 · 07/02/2017 00:00

I have no idea, but I'd guess close to 86%.

BabyHamster · 07/02/2017 00:01

I'd also love to know where I could get this measured. Not a member of a gym.

sheepysheep · 07/02/2017 08:30

I'm 27%. My BMI is 23. I measure mine on a salter bioimpedance scale - £9.99 from Amazon. I'm not sure about accuracy either, but I've had it for about a month now and it is consistent. Even if bioimpedance scales aren't 100% correct they will show trends.

Helspopje · 07/02/2017 08:47

22% age 41
I use an impedence thigie on my scales to monitor which correlates well with calipers
Has been fab to watch it tumble even when weight wasnt falling through the floor
Is now more impt to me than my weight as i can be heavier but smaller/lower fat/look better when strength training. Weight alone is only part of the picture

MaidOfStars · 07/02/2017 08:51

EZA15 Mine are for use on a specific spot above the right hipbone. There are diagrams of where to pinch and YOU MUST NOT USE THEM ELSEWHERE. Obviously, what they mean is that the chart they give you is for fat in that area, not that the calipers (which are mere mechanical devices) suddenly stop working if you use them on your arse Grin

So yes, I pinch the skin/fat outwards with my hand, find the spot just behind the curve of the pinched skin and press calipers around it, firm but not digging in. Best of three readings, then check chart!

Somehowsomewhere · 07/02/2017 08:52

I'm at the very top end of healthy weight (BMI 24.7) and mine is 24%. Lower than I expected to be honest as I certainly feel squishy.
I've lost 8lbs since Christmas and my body fat has come down 3% in that time.

MaidOfStars · 07/02/2017 08:53

(The caliper scale displays the gap between the two ends as they are held apart by your skin/fat. My gap is 6mm above my right hipbone)

WayfaringStranger · 07/02/2017 09:01

Are calipers accurate? I know those body fat scales are notoriously inaccurate. I'm a bit overweight and I'm not very mobile due to a physical disability, so I expect I've got lots of fat. :( I want to motivate myself and I think this would help.

NarcsBegone · 07/02/2017 09:07

Queen what maid said Smile. I have ME/Cfs as well as severe back and hip problems and so my movements are very limited. I thought it would be a lot worse.

NarcsBegone · 07/02/2017 09:08

Sorry maid what queen said

Thefitfatty · 07/02/2017 09:21

22%. I'm a stone overweight, but my body fat reads as ideal...

Sirzy · 07/02/2017 09:27

I am 22% body fat and I think it was 26% muscle

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 07/02/2017 09:36

I use my scales at home. They are useful for showing a trend even if the actual amount isn't particularly accurate. Today my fat is at 26%. I'm at the top end of my comfort zone, and my waist is about an inch and a half greater than my personal ideal. My BMI is about 23 (I'm happier at 22). The patterns on my scales match up with how I feel, and the tape measure.

Being 5ft 2 with a small frame, I have no hiding space and I feel the difference of 4-5 pounds very easily. I know I'm still slim and healthy, it just takes regular, gentle monitoring to stay that way!

(I'm only ever a big meal away from triggering pregnancy rumours Grin)

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 07/02/2017 09:38

205%.

sigh.

AyeAmarok · 07/02/2017 09:49

Mine was 19% fat when it was measured about 5 years ago. BMI 19 or so too.

I weigh a bit less now (50kg then, 48kg now) but I've just had a baby 2 months ago. So I would imagine I have less muscle than I did then, but more boob, so I wouldn't expect it to be lower as I don't feel as strong.

I really want a go with Maid's callipers! I love this stuff, find it fascinating.

SpaceDuck · 07/02/2017 10:14

40%. BMI is 34 and I'm classed as obese Sad though I (hopefully) don't think I look it because of my height.

GeekLove · 07/02/2017 10:17

I used the calipers but they had my fat% at 19% which I think is too low. I'll need to repeat the measurements as judging by appearance its probably more like 23%.
BMI wise I'm just under 27 but I loft weights and have the beginnings of a six pack (in a good light).

WeddingsAreStressful · 07/02/2017 10:19

34% but BMI of 22.5

GeekLove · 07/02/2017 11:02

Calipers can under-estimate body fat%. One method gave me a 18% which is way too low but the chart above just using the abdominal pinch gave me 23% which to me seems much closer to reality.

Here is what different body fat% look like on women:
