To see fifty shades of grey with dd?

ToddBell · 06/02/2017 20:37

DD is now 18 and wants to see fifty shades of grey with me. She has seen the first one but didn't go to the cinema as she wasn't old enough but saw it last year.

Would I be U to go and see it with her? Or will it look odd?

Bad sex is a lot to be ashamed of. Bad literature about bad sex is surely even worse!

PurpleDaisies · 06/02/2017 21:10

Bad literature about bad sex is surely even worse!

You are being seriously unreasonable to refer to that rubbish as "literature", even if you do call it bad.

piefacerecords · 06/02/2017 21:12

Imo anybody paying to see such a pile of shite looks odd Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 06/02/2017 21:15

I assume the point of the film is titillation with sexual excitement intended. That isn't something I'd like to experience in the company of my relatives. It's not a family activity, getting mildly aroused in the Odeon.

User543212345 · 06/02/2017 21:15

Haha Purple I'm ashamed to say I'm a product of the same educational establishment as EL James. Our most famous old girl gave us the worst, yet best selling, book series of recent years.

toconclude · 06/02/2017 21:15

It's dangerous, misogynistic bollocks which completely misrepresents the BDSM community, so if you want your teenager exposed to that...

augustusglupe · 06/02/2017 21:16

My DD is 28 and she went to see the last one with a friend. She wouldn't have wanted to go with me nor me her. Mind you I didn't want to see it anyway Hmm
We went to see Bridget Jones Baby together and I was squirming a bit at the sex scenes and it was all fairly lightweight.... I'm no prude though!!! Grin

AnyFucker · 06/02/2017 21:18

Yabu to consider spending hard earned money going anywhere near this shit. ...dd or no dd

Kookypants · 06/02/2017 21:28

I think I'd be explaining why she shouldn't want to see a bunch of shite like that.

nooka · 06/02/2017 21:30

Putting aside the utter shitness of the books, the first movie and most likely even more so the second why would anyone go and see any film they didn't expect to enjoy? The dd could see the film on her own or with friends, no need for maternal sacrifice any more :)

On the specific question I doubt anyone will bat an eyelid at the OP and her dd going to see the film.

WanderingTrolley1 · 06/02/2017 21:31

Hell no!!

SpackenDeDoich · 06/02/2017 21:31

Just do it. All of my DCS were very open sexually with me from about 13. It will give you an ideal opportunity to discuss what is sexually healthy at the very least.

MuseumOfCurry · 06/02/2017 21:33

Ew.

SpackenDeDoich · 06/02/2017 21:34

My DD has read the book and seen the film. I refused to do either.

lilmissmummy1 · 06/02/2017 21:37

If she feels comfortable enough to sit and watch that with you then I don't see why not?

TheElephantofSurprise · 06/02/2017 21:42

If you will have a giggle about it, surely that's a good thing?

eachtigertires · 06/02/2017 21:44

Saw the first one and likely will the second with my MIL and her sister. Now that is cringeworthy Grin. I'd have no problem seeing it with my mother either if she was interested.

LouisevilleLlama · 06/02/2017 21:47

c3pu · 06/02/2017 22:21

YABU to go and watch it, if it's half as bad as the first one.

Truly awful.

Stripeless · 06/02/2017 22:28

FWIW, I went to see the first one with my mum. I was just under 18 at the time.
It wasn't weird, but we have quite a friendly relationship anyway. It might be uncomfortable if you don't, though!

misshelena · 07/02/2017 03:08

Yes! How lucky you are OP that your teen DD invited you to watch it with her!! And it's not like she doesn't know what it's about, so she obviously feels comfortable watching it with you. Enjoy!

Littlelegs19 · 07/02/2017 03:36

I saw the first one with my mum and will see the 2nd one with her. It wasn't at all embarrassing but then we are all very close. It wouldn't have even crossed my mind that either of us would have felt uncomfortable

KoalaDownUnder · 07/02/2017 03:43

Fark no. I'm 43 (chronologically at least Wink) and cringe when a random sex scene comes on and my mum's in the room.

AngryGinger · 07/02/2017 11:47

I am very close to my mum but literally can think of nothing worse than this. I think it would be excruciating.

PollytheDolly · 07/02/2017 11:52

Ewww haha!!
