I have 2 transactions going out of my bank, only for £1 and 35p but I've not idea what they are and am abit concerned

I have recently lost my card and immediately cancelled it and ordered a new on so wondered if it might be a fee for that, or something I've ordered from abroad maybe although I'm sure I haven't!

Has anyone seen it before or know what it is or should I panic and ring the bank tomorrow? thanks

Oo, thinking about it, have you bought anything from abroad / America and not used PayPal? When I buy something in dollars I get charged a percentage as a separate transaction and then £1 as well.
So either you've bought something abroad, someone else has bought something abroad, or your about to be emptied. The last 2/3 are not good. Google banks website, there will be a 24hr lost card fraud number to phone

CiderwithBuda · 06/02/2017 19:01

Phone the bank as soon as possible.

It's a known tactic for fraudsters to put though small test amounts. Banks are wise to it.

YouHadMeAtCake · 06/02/2017 19:05

I had this and it was fraudsters testing the card before trying to take a large sum, luckily it was prevented. Definitely call the bank OP.

There is a 24 hour number for fraud - mine had a load of Stagecoach ticket transactions for small amounts over a few hours, then they took the lot. I have to say the bank were amazing and I had the money back in my account within a few days but it happened again about a year later. I now only ever use a credit card online, (especially ebay and Amazon marketplace) and pay the balance in full every month.

Brunilde · 06/02/2017 19:27

As a couple of other people have stated these are international transaction fees directly charged by your bank, they are not card payments. Most banks will charge a small percentage if you make a transaction which is not in sterling. It's usually around 2%.

SecretSix · 06/02/2017 19:49

Most banks have 24 hour telephone service now and make sure you report it as potential fraud, not just "what are these transactions?"

JagerPlease · 06/02/2017 21:01

If you have had a transaction go through in dollars that could certainly be it. No harm checking but more likely to be that than fraud

DesolateWaist · 06/02/2017 21:05

I get these from companies when I have made online purchases. For example Ocado will charge my card £1 until the order is delivered and finalised, then they will charge the full amount.

Always worth being over cautious and calling the bank though.

JammyC · 06/02/2017 21:06

Exactly this happened when my credit card details were stolen. Report immediately, fraud lines with banks are usually 24hr.

WhooooAmI24601 · 06/02/2017 21:08

They're likely test transactions. Fortunately Lloyds (looks like you're with them?) are brilliant at handling this stuff, will return any monies immediately and will sort it all out with as little stress as possible.

I had my card cloned and used in Milton Keynes (where I've never been in my life). They bought a dominos pizza and a sofa at BrightHouse. I hope they choked on their stolen pepperoni.

Needmoresleep · 06/02/2017 21:18

DS, aged 17 made a £1 donation to the LibDems. The bank phoned assuming it was a dodgy test transaction.

I wonder if it was the fact it was the LibDems, or would they have been the same with Labour or the Tories. Or UKIP?

mainlywingingit · 06/02/2017 21:20

eBay transactions ? They were mine

RainyDayBear · 06/02/2017 21:22

You've not recently signed up with PayPal have you? I think they do this to verify the account, then refund it. Definitely query with your bank though!

Chesntoots · 06/02/2017 21:32

I had this with one of my credit cards. They put through a couple of small transactions from America. Sadly for them at the time I was up to my eyeballs in debt so the couple of pounds they took before trying to spend over $500 was what was left of my credit limit.

They must have been seriously disappointed...

intotheabis · 07/02/2017 12:43

Thanks for your help everyone, I rang the bank last night and they confirmed it was a subscription to audible (which I wasn't aware of signed up to) that was for some reason coming out in dollars and those transactions were the charges for using something other than £s.

Glad I checked though I feel much better now! Smile
