Tenants / Landlords...

Just watching nightmare tenants slum landlords (which I like as it seems more balanced than just one side is 'bad')

There are tenants that haven't paid rent in 7 months, and the ll has to wait longer to get them out? That surely cannot be right? I know there are some terrible LLs out there as well....
I'd hate to be a landlord - my mum has property and wants us to rent out when she leaves it us in her will - no chance!!

But those are the risks you take when you try to make a profit off someone's basic need for a roof above their head, or believe that someone else should be paying your mortgage for you. In every other circumstance, the landlord has the power.

What-fucking-ever! We didn't make a profit - the rent was nearly £400 LESS than our mortgage payments! The dishwasher played up, we bought a new one. We payed for the lawns to be mowed twice a month. All repairs carried out within a day of being reported. They still fucked us over, ruined our garden, let their child put fucking stickers on our handpainted wooden kitchen island, and to get the house and garden back in order after they fucked off owing 2 months rent cost us ANOTHER £3K.

Orange don't get wound up, do not feed the troll!

Silly sheep alert!

May not be a troll, some on mn do disapprove of profit from human need. It is OK to sell food, be a nurse , a builder or a mortgage broker , just not a landlord.

Playground logic. Ignore.

I became a landlord by accident two years ago (inherited house that's not wheelchair accessible so no way for me to live there). Inheriting the house meant my benefits were stopped, so I have no choice but to rent out the house in order to pay my own rent (and it doesn't cover my own rent).

I'm also a tenant, and my own landlord broke in and changed the locks because I complained about urgent work not being done.

Not every landlord is a fat cat who bought a property intending to rent it out. I would dearly love to live in my beloved childhood/family home rather than renting it out, but it's just not an option.

I also can't understand why these people being thrown out or whatever they're up to should have their Immigration Status looked into as well. As seems to me that more than half of them can't even speak English.

Totally agree with specialsubject. A one size fits all system doesn't work.

Whilst I fully agree that tenants should have every right afforded to them, it should be easier to evict tenants who don't/won't pay their rent.

I live in what would probably be described as a slum village; many houses are boarded up or derelict. It's such a shame as it's actually a lovely place to live.
The landlords locally know that unless someone was born in the village they're likely to be desperate for housing and will take anything with 4 walls and a roof.
There are houses with no heating, mould, leaks, inadequate plumbing, the list goes on.

This village is last chance saloon for a lot of people- all landlords will rent to high risk tenants, people who have been evicted, people on benefits etc. Some of the landlords are lovely, some just plain don't care and most people are too afraid to complain for fear of being kicked out and having nowhere to go.

I can imagine it's a hard job being a landlord but some just don't give a shit about anything but the money.

I do however think that there needs to be easier ways for landlords to get (proven) problem tenants out rather than waiting 6 months to go through court
