I've been going to an event for the last few years and always have a great time. This year is the last year its happening and I really want to go. It'll be about £200 for two people for three days.

The problem is, I should really be saving up. I have 2k credit card debt and would have to pay on my credit card for the hotel.

Would I be unreasonable to go?

You only live once! £200 in the scheme of things is nothing. Go and enjoy. You'll always regret it if you don't.

Sirzy · 04/02/2017 11:24

Is the other person someone where the cost will come from joint funds? How much would the spends be?

If it is just £100 plus not too much spends/travel I would go - it's important to have things to look forward to.

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2017 11:44

I'd be paying for the hotel, other person would be paying for the petrol and tickets.

I would do it then

19lottie82 · 04/02/2017 11:47

You say you're in 2k of credit card debt already..... If you have to stick this on the card too, then you can't really afford it, can you?

Are you making regular payments to the card in a realistic attemp to clear the debt? If so then go for it, but if it's just the minimum payments every month, I think you need to scale back your spending......sorry.

buckyou · 04/02/2017 11:49

I would.

TheNaze73 · 04/02/2017 11:52

You'd be adding 10% more debt, to your credit card bill & are meant to be saving. I wouldn't go

HaPPy8 · 04/02/2017 11:53

I wouldn't. Its this sort of thing that can make debt spiral out of control.

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2017 12:01

I'm paying double the min payment each month and will be paying even more than that in a couple of months time when my current phone contact ends. I owe that much because of a household emergency, not constant spending..

I'd really regret not going. It's the last time ever this event will take place.

It's the last one. I think you'll regret it if you don't go. You are not in denial about the credit card so you know how much is on it and you are not planning to go mad.

Instead of adding more debt have a look at selling some stuff on eBay/Gumtree that sort of thing. What about trying to raise a bit of cash by babysitting/dogwalking etc. I got a good few pounds from selling odd gold earrings and a broken gold bracelet to Hatton Garden METALS, none of it missed as I mostly wear silver these days.

PuppyMonkey · 04/02/2017 12:09

" It'll be about £200 for two people for three days. "
Sounds a bargain.

Is that entirely accurate or just what you're kidding yourself it'll be? Have you factored in travel costs, food, spends? Will it end up being more like £500 - and can you afford that?

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2017 12:21

It's £140 for the B&B. We wouldn't arrive until early evening on the first day so just one meal then. Say £10 at the pub next door for that. The second day there is the event which lasts all day and has food included in the price, but I'll tack £20 on just in case I want a trinket to bring back.

Wed leave about lunchtime on the third day so again just lunch at about £10.

That leaves me with £20 out of my budget for a little treat. This is my only holiday each year and I've got the spending down to a fine art. Smile

Kc225, sadly I have no jewellery to sell as I don't wear it. No call for babysitting or dogwalking in my area. I have a few bits I'm going to sell on ebay but I doubt they'll bring in much.

Go.

Your CC debt is a household thing, it's not like you're continually over spending.

19lottie82 · 04/02/2017 12:34

I'd go, then cut up the card.

Breezy1985 · 04/02/2017 12:37

I'd go too.. you'd probably end up regretting it if you don't, I know I would.

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2017 12:40

Lottie, the card is only used for emergency things in general. It's 0% interest. I hadn't spent a penny on it until the washer broke, flooded the kitchen and caused quite a bit damage.

Go and have a lovey time!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 04/02/2017 13:19

I'd do it. But then I have about £15k credit card debt, some of which was spent on a holiday last year.

I don't regret it one little bit. Everything is getting paid back.

Violetcharlotte · 04/02/2017 13:28

I'd go. You only live once after all! £2k
Credit card debts not much really (assuming you can afford the repayments obviously!)

You sound like you've made up your mind to go anyway! Grin

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2017 13:29

Thank you! If the event wasn't finishing this year I'd just skip it but because it is, I really want to go. Plus it's down south in the spring and I think the sunshine will do me good.

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2017 13:31

I'm trying to find ways to talk myself out of it but not really coming up with any. The credit card is being paid back at a steady rate, I've just had a minor pay rise at work and will shortly be getting more hours. Plus with uni and work it'll probably be my last holiday for a few years anyway!
