To wonder if MNHQ 'guidelines' apply to celebrities?

This is not a TAAT, it's a thread about lots of threads.

I've noticed recently a fair few threads aimed at celebrities in really negative ways.
The latest I've just read is one about a very famous model where she was called insufferable and an attention seeking fuckwitt (amongst others) which could be construed as very hurtful and what I could class as a personal attack.
MNHQ is generally really hot on removing posts and threads which are deemed to be personal attacks when they are aimed at users - is this only enforced if personal attacks are used against another poster or does this just not apply to celebrities?

I'm not trying to have a go at anybody here, I'm genuinely curious because it just doesn't seem fair to me.
You never know who's reading the site after all!

Thanks Iona for the clarification- I'll feel happy to report a bit more on these kinds of threads.

JuanPotatoTwo · 03/02/2017 21:32

Hah! I wasn't going to comment on this thread, was just reading. But my first thought on opening it was how I liked your username Billy :) Am most definitely not a 13yr old boy.

JuanPotatoTwo · 03/02/2017 21:33

Oh - and YANBU.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2017 21:35

My name is a quote from a David Bowie song from 1971, I don't expect any of you 13 year olds to realise that.

Fighterofthenightman · 03/02/2017 21:37

Why post on a thread just to say you dislike the OPs username?. How odd.

DoItTooJulia · 03/02/2017 21:38

Are you ok bibbity?

Fighterofthenightman · 03/02/2017 21:39

I know it. Queen Bitch.

GruochMacAlpin · 03/02/2017 21:41

GrinGrinGrinGrin

The only proper response to that Bibbity is "oooooooooooh"

You've definitely taken me down a leg or two.

GruochMacAlpin · 03/02/2017 21:42

peg not leg - was laughing while posting...

Highalert · 03/02/2017 21:43

I agree with Bibbity.

The OPs username is not funny or clever. It's a bit too try hard.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2017 21:47

It's actually a subject that really interests me - I've never forgotten my Lily Allen thread from 3 or 4 years ago.

But if you are going to give yourself a username like BillyButtFuck you can't pretend to be annoyed when someone notices it, surely? Why shouldn't I comment on it? As a member of Mumsnet (or even not as a member of Mumsnet) I can comment on any thread I like.

BillyButtFuck has been carefully chosen to be memorable/provacative/comment-worthy/and all the rest of it.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 03/02/2017 21:48

Just fucking whoa!!! When the fuck did we start pulling user names to pieces??? Get a fucking hold of yourselves!!
We might be a nest of vipers but that is overstepping the mark IMO & just fucking rude.

MistressMerryWeather · 03/02/2017 21:49

I think people need to get over themselves.

BillyButtfuck · 03/02/2017 21:56

Hang on, when did I pretend to be annoyed by your post Bibity? I just said it was an odd post.
My username hasn't been chosen to provoke a reaction, it's an old nickname between me and sister.
I don't mind if you take a dislike to it or feel the need to comment and I'm certainly not annoyed or pretending to be.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2017 22:02

So what did you find odd about my post Billy?

Usernames have been discussed/commented on for as long as I've been on Mumsnet, NoFuckingRoom.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 03/02/2017 22:08

Commented on or bitched about? Hmm
Plenty of threads asking what usernames conjure up as an image of someone or asking where yours came from but actively been nasty about one? No.
As long as you're happy with yours then leave everyone else's alone.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/02/2017 22:11

There are hundreds of user names that make me raise an eye brow but HQ allow them so I'm not going to argue- I'm certainly not going to start sniping at posters because I think their user names are childish as that would be mean and nasty. It's also pretty telling your only contribution to the thread is to have a go at the OP bibbity Are you having a bad day as you're coming across as a bit unpleasant. Anything you want tell Aunty Dame over a cup of tea?SmileBrew

BillyButtfuck · 03/02/2017 22:12

I thought it odd that you weren't part of the thread beforehand and didn't (and still haven't) add anything to the actual post which is conducive to the topic but felt the need to comment anyway just to say you wouldn't be interested in any of my opinions based on a name.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2017 22:17

I'm sorry but I can't take it seriously that someone with the username BillyButtFuck is going to find my comments on her name "mean and nasty". Infact hasn't she just insisted she hasn't?

It's merely an observation.

Here she is starting an earnest and serious thread on Mumsnet about what is or is not acceptable to post in the public domain ... all the while calling herself BillyButtFuck. I think that is noteworthy Grin and I haven't made a personal attack. Let's see if HQ delete me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/02/2017 22:19

GF

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2017 22:20

Billy - to summarise my position: HQ have extremely inconsistent moderation re. celebrity bashing threads. I don't think they really know what is or isn't acceptable.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2017 22:21

Sorry, what was that Dame?

BillyButtfuck · 03/02/2017 22:22

I never said you were mean or nasty and I haven't said you've launched a personal attack. I simple said I found your post odd and you're welcome to take interest (or not) in whatever you like.

Your looking for a fight and I'm really not biting, sorry.
