What colour front door ?

KurriKurri · 02/02/2017 13:05

What colour is yours? - I'm repainting mine soon as it got badly scratched by large furniture when we moved in.

Victorian terrace, brick front. House on one side (also brick front) has a wooden door with a large knocker (which I covet) house on other side is rendered front of house is light grey, door is black.

Mine is currently a sort of mid blue.

I fancy maybe a teal colour, or a maroon/burgundy - something a bit different. It's a seaside town so we can get away with a bit of colourfulness.

Any suggestions ? TIA.

Black. It looks stunning with small windows at the top and silver knocker - really makes the house look posh (but it isn't)

Does a coloured door look ok if the surrounding windows are white UPVC multipane?

PickAChew · 02/02/2017 14:45

Mine's a lovely deep blue. It's really smartened the house up. I had a solid wood door on a red brick house which I also painted Oxford blue. I loved that paint job!

(also hate my boring white upvc door)

RhodaBorrocks · 02/02/2017 14:48

Navy blue. The council owns the lease on my building so when they put in new composite doors to comply with fire regs 2.5 years ago I didn't get a say in colour.

DS wants violet. I want fuschia.

KurriKurri · 02/02/2017 14:49

user892 - that's what I had in my old house (PVC windows, blue wooden half glazed door) and I think it looked OK.

Found a pic - we've since had the walls rendered in a buttermilk colour, so ignore them!

Mine is red. The lady next door has a purple front door - I love it

KurriKurri · 02/02/2017 15:25

That is very smart PickaChew - I like your little stained glass panels too Smile

White.

My neighbours' doors are: white, navy blue, mahogany and dusty rose!

FaintlyBaffled · 02/02/2017 15:35

We're all white painted wood as we are a row of very old cottages, converted from an old brewery. They're very dull and I long to splash out into at least a sage colour but fear the village will see me as "racy"

Sage green.

SenseiWoo · 02/02/2017 15:43

I like dark colours, I must say. Little Green has nice ones: this is a sort of tobacco colour; and this one is a lovely purpley-red.

But teal is also a great idea. I don't like the fashion for silver or brushed chrome door furniture on old houses-black cast iron is much nicer.

ClaraLane · 02/02/2017 15:47

What about orange? There's a terraced house on my way home from work that's been renovated and they've put a bright orange door in and I love it. I wish I could paint my rubbish UPVC door.

TattiePants · 02/02/2017 16:02

Mine is a reddish / maroon colour and I love it. It's a Farrow & Ball colour (although I'd have to check which one).

Now deep blue but just arranged a decorator and it's going to be... drum roll... sage green.

Botanicbaby · 02/02/2017 16:14

Spotted a very bright yellow recently on a lovely double fronted tenement apartment. It looked stunning.

Surprised as that's not a colour I'd have ever thought of using.

Victorian terraces look nice with pale grey/green but depending on area can be ubiquitous.

LadyPenelope68 · 02/02/2017 16:18

Deep purple looks fab!

AndShesGone · 02/02/2017 17:10

ClaraLane - I painted my last pvc door which chalk paint. Still perfect after 3 years when I left.

pipps · 02/02/2017 17:19

We went for Farrow & Ball French Gray (which is actually a very pale green/olive colour). Looks fab on any house - I copied it from a friend who has a lovely Victorian brick terrace whereas ours is more modern style off-white rendered. We took the view if we started with a light colour we could always go darker in due course and it's easier to paint dark paint onto light than the other way round which suits me as I'm lazy

zukiecat · 02/02/2017 18:18

I have a horrible brown council door, it's strong and I feel safe with all the locks on it (old red wooden one got kicked in by local thugs)

I want my current door but in a lovely deep red or teal colour

user892 · 02/02/2017 18:51

Omg AndShesGone - it would never occur to me to paint a upvc door! Much cheaper

AndShesGone · 02/02/2017 19:06

Yep, cost me one tin of Annie Sloan paint. I opened the door and painted the front (it had a slight texture). Dried in about one hour.

I didn't do the interior sides, all plasticky and triple layered. And I didn't do the back as it was white and very smooth surfaced.

littlejeopardy · 02/02/2017 19:14

Bright pillar box red here, looks lovely at Christmas with a wreath on.

DangerousBeanz · 02/02/2017 19:18

Mine is Tardis Blue. I'm a nerd, it used to be black but I painted it.
