To put son with conjunctivitis into nursery tomorrow?

The nursery called today; our 18 month old has conjunctivitis. They said he can come in as long as he is having treatment, so DH popped by and took him to the chemist and now he has eyedrops. Nursery say he can come in tomorrow; he seems happy enough and is being treated. But I feel really guilty about putting him in nursery poorly, but also have client meetings tomorrow which I really don't want to have To reschedule (and both me and DH have already taken a few days off each since October with DS being ill) the nursery mentioned a couple of other babies also have it; so it's already doing the rounds of the nursery. Aibu to put him into nursery tomorrow?

True Lindy I hadn't thought of that part of it, still in a baby fog I think. Am I right in thinking that schools etc used to say kids had to stay off if they had conjunctivitus? I seem to remember that they did and wonder why that wouldnhave been changed. When although not life threatening or anything it is still a nasty thing to get.

My child caught conjunctivitis from nursery. The nursery doesn't have an exclusion rule for conjunctivitis. I took my child out for the day and made an appointment with the GP who wasn't concerned, didn't prescribe anything and said it''s very common. It cleared up and my child wasn't distressed by it. I would take your child in as your nursery also has no exclusion policy. It's difficult as a working parent to take so much time off for things they catch from nursery. We managed not to catch it that time. However, a separate time when it was going around the nursery my child missed catching it again yet I caught it! It was sore but went in a few days.

BigFatGoalie Nurseries can absolutely exclude if they so wish, they are not bound by the guidelines. Ofsted would not be in the least bit interested, providing the rules were communicated to parents effectively. Have been a nursery manager for many many years. Incidentally we do not exclude for conjunctivitis, but we are advised to seek advice from public health England for an outbreak who will advise accordingly

Keep him off, it's contagious and nasty and made my daughter miserable around the same age, getting the gel cream thing into her eye was awful and she hated it, took ages to clear up. Why do people think it's ok to send a contagious child around others?

RaisingChocolate I wish you were right in our case! I'm head of a Nursery in a private Prep school. We have to follow Gov guild lines to the letter, and there is no exclusion for conjunctivitis (or nits/ head lice! 😬)
I can suggest a parent keeps their child at home but I cannot ASK them too...
Hence I wash my hands about 27 times a day.
