Hello all, named changed for this as I don't want anyone to know about my interview/assessment for this role for now, avoiding any jinxing

Have assessments coming up for fire control 999 operator, anyone have any hints or tips they can offer? I know I have to do a phone assessment first then attend an assessment day which I assume will include typing tests etc. and role play.

Any tips greatly received; if you do the job already how do you find it? Bricking it already Confused

Hi Purfectly Purple
I have a telephone interview coming up for call handler and my nerves just get the better of me. Could you give me some idea of questions please.

Thank you. I would be ever so grateful

good luck! I was a fire control operator for 12 years. you will probably have mock calls and a typing test. Listening and negotiating skills are a must! And you must be able to remain calm when the caller is in real distress. Its a tough job. I'm a firefighter now and I find that easier than being on the phone.
Let us know how you get on!

I had a phone interview/task first where you had to role play how you responded to a call so listen and take the details, pick up the important stuff like address, injury etc.

Got through that then an assessment day with group tasks to solve a game type thing to show your team working and problem solving skills.

Then a transcribing task using real 999 calls. THEN an off the cuff presentation where they gave me a subject.

It was hard and nerve wracking, but i enjoyed the day, was interesting...

I didn't get it though but enjoyed the experience. If I had passed this second stage, the next is a one to one interview

Sure will do and thank you both.

Hiya, so sorry you didn't get the job. At least they allow you to apply very 6months if they're recruiting and now you have experience! I am going for the assessment day soon, any advice on what to expect and do you remember what they asked at your interview at all? Any recollection would be much appreciated, I'm so so nervous, I really hate interviews 😓. Thank you hun
