to think that damaged Boden clothing is a new fetish

I like some of the Boden stuff but think it is overpriced (for my budget anyway) I always have a look on ebay and I am always flabberghasted by the amount that people will pay for a damaged item. Recently I have seen:

"Excellent condition, a 9cm rip on the arm but as you can clearly see the fabric is very forgiving".

"Great condition, creosote spilt down the front but it doesn't spoil the dress"

" Excellent condition, in the pictures you can see I had to replace the hood (very badly sewn hood attached which doesn't match the coat) and three small holes"

The damaged stuff seems to sell better than the "new with tags" stuff or the genuinely excellent condition stuff. A paint stained dress went for £18. Most of the stuff seems to go for almost half the price of the brand new price.

Can anyone shed any light?

With all the discount codes Boden do you can probably get brand new cheaper than eBay prices! I saw a pair of mini Boden boys trousers on eBay today, the bidding had got up to £20, with my 20% discount code I could nearly get them brand new for that.

TDmoocher · 31/01/2017 20:34

On a fb group someone is trying to sell stained mini Boden leggings for £6 each. I like Boden but I'm not buying stained leggings let alone for that price, I could buy two brand new leggings for £6 in the supermarkets.

CinderellaRockefeller · 31/01/2017 20:37

Does anyone else find that boden dresses are ridiculously high waisted or am I just a weird shape?

allchattedout · 31/01/2017 20:41

Are you buying mini-Boden or adult clothes? I really don't get the deal with the adult clothes. They are frumpy, ill-fitting and overpriced. I own a dress (from ebay for £14) from there. It makes me look about two sizes larger and emphasises my fat stomach. The thought of anyone spending £70 on it makes me shudder.

I used to like the kids' stuff about 12 years ago. But the quality seemed to decline. Or maybe that's just me getting old and grumpy. I still like it for PJs and swimwear (for me - my children would never wear anything so lame), but I"ve sent things back recently - slingback shoes that felt cardboardy and clacked hopelessly, cardigans where the colours were really harsh and nothing like the catalogue. Don't get me started on the sizing policy.

F1GI · 31/01/2017 20:54

Cinderella they all look high waisted in the pics so I've never bought one as that style really looks bad on me.

bowed · 31/01/2017 21:01

They are mostly high waisted!

The quality has gone down, with not as much attention to detail, but prices have gone up. I was a big fan at least 10 years ago. I don't get the appeal now.

Apparently they've streamlined lately which explains why there isn't as much choice. If you need a pencil or A line skirt though they have loads Grin

MikeUniformMike · 31/01/2017 21:02

I've had stuff from Boden. Didn't wash well. Looked frumpy on me. Looks great on the yummy mummies but it's not for me.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/01/2017 21:05

I see lots of children in worn out Boden its a look for some

Has to be on the small side too

MrsSeverusSnape · 31/01/2017 21:10

@grumpbum I think we're in the same Facebook group! The Benjis?

Grumpbum · 31/01/2017 21:23

Yes!

Grumpbum · 31/01/2017 21:23

Crazy

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 07/02/2017 13:22

Thought of this thread when I read this article just now on The Pool.

Apparently the founder of JojoMamanBebe kicked off on a JJMB Facebook selling site, boggling at the second-hand prices and pointing out that as the store doesn't charge postage they could in some cases have the new item for less, and pointing out that using the stock images from the website is technically copyright infringement.

She's backed down and apologised but tbh I think she has a point...

Prices for second hand Boden kids clothes are crazy. I only ever buy Boden stuff in the sales ( min 50% off) and have frequently sold used kids clothes for more than I paid for them and had a year's use out of them. So in effect I dressed my kids in Boden more or less for free.

Jemimapuddleduk · 07/02/2017 14:11

I'm also on the frugi and boden children Facebook sites. I have a benji jacket sitting upstairs which I can't bear to part with but would get around £40!! It's crazy it was much much less than that bought new.
I think it's because all these things are on people's Facebook feeds so it's in their face and first to respond gets it means it's a bit addictive! I really, really don't get the people buying second hand boden kids pants. I happily dress my kids in second hand but underwear, just no way!

Rainydayspending · 07/02/2017 14:20

I left one of the fbook groups for secondhand popular brands. Someone was offended that I made an offer (£2 less than the asking price). Madness. I long to join them all and tell them they're crackers! Secondhand noone is buying my frugi/ maxomorra/ boden/ little bird (perhsps i like the wrong prints). But it's used! I don't expect 1/2 or even a 1/3 what most people put!
Selling it damaged is weird. People maybe get caught up in "winning" the bid.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2017 14:28

A fool and their money!

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2017 14:31

Just looked on the Boden site, £26 for little boys tracksuit trousers, next were doing £2 for 10 and similar quality. Rip off!

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2017 14:35

I paid £26 for some boden trousers for my son a few years ago, and after a few wears, the knees where ripping, nothing just normal toddlers behaviour.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2017 14:37

Never again, totally overrated tbh.

ElfingHeck · 07/02/2017 14:44

Where do people sell this stuff? I have loads of horrifically damaged Boden clothing. Perhaps I can fund my retirement with it ...

kierenthecommunity · 07/02/2017 16:17

I got one of those frugi 'bundles of joy' (where you get random items for £20) and joined the second hand page to swap something. The second hand prices are unbelievable especially when stuff is clearly damaged

I'd never pay more than 50% for anything second hand and certainly wouldn't but stained clothes, but they do on the Frugi page Confused

I got some Jojo stuff on eBay second hand for my boy for a song a couple of years ago, wish I'd hung onto them rather than flogging them for next to nothing on gumtree as third hand play wear
