To want to get involved? Neighbour issue..

I'm new to my area and today is the third time I've seen my neighbour sobbing and looking desperate for help. A couple of days ago it looked like she tried to leave as she walked out with some bags and he was shouting and swearing at her telling her to come back. They're always arguing and she seems scared of him.

I'm a single mum living alone with my young dd and don't want to get on the wrong side of the guy but at the same time I cant ignore it.

WWYD?

Go round and introduce yourself and invite her round for a cup of tea. Take it from there.

Ilovecaindingle · 26/01/2017 15:52

Ah that's sounds awful. Can you maybe wait til he isn't in and go over and introduce yourself? - new neighbour etc? Sounds like she could do with a shared coffee.

I've been wanting to go round to introduce myself but he always seems to be home. Their curtains are always closed and none of them seem to leave the house Confused

What a horrible situation.

I agree with others that you should keep an eye on the house and see if he goes out and then invite her round for a cuppa.

When you've seen her sobbing, where she has been? In the street? In the garden? Or have you seen her through the window?

user1485102013 · 26/01/2017 18:37

Once in the street and twice through the window. I feel like I'm spying but I have a really bad feeling about it all.

i was your neighbour until a week ago for three years. be a friend it was gaining support that made me kick him out

OneWithTheForce · 26/01/2017 20:42

Do they have young children? Just wondering if there's is a health visitor you could contact.

shakeyospeare · 06/02/2017 21:45

Have you managed to go round, OP?

fabulous01 · 06/02/2017 21:52

I am sorry but I wouldn't get involved. Don't bring trouble to your door without knowing full facts
But if you do see her upset ask her to contact relatives or friends.

Thinkingofausername1 · 06/02/2017 21:54

Next time they have an argument call the police for noise disturbance

Chippednailvarnishing · 06/02/2017 21:55

I wouldn't get directly involved, but I would contact HV / school / preschool / police nstead.

shakeyospeare · 06/02/2017 22:16

Health visitor is a great shout.

ZippyNeedsFeeding · 06/02/2017 22:31

One of the first things an abuser does is to isolate their victim. You can't save her, but you can help her to feel less isolated. That may mean that she feels more able to seek help, or to make him leave/leave herself.
I couldn't stand by and ignore it. You'd want to get to know your neighbours anyway, wouldn't you?

BorrowedHeart · 08/02/2017 00:13

Did you talk to the neighbour?
