By swapping my pvc door for a wooden one

I know this should probably be in the diy section but I feel like alot of people will have had experience with this situation and im not sure if I am being unreasonable by doing this or not.. sorry for the waffling! Basically we have this awful white pvc door with a tiny window and I HATE it... it let's in hardly any light and makes my hall way seem so dark and depressing it also doesn't really look great. I managed to pick up my dream door (pictured) which will let in tons of light and looks beautiful ( imo) but it's wooden (I perfer the look of wooden but not sure on its practicality) Am I being unreasonable by swapping them over? It's single glazed. My house is a 1960s 3 bed semi ex council property (I'm only 21, sahm of 2 with only dh currently paying the mortgage ) so not sure if this will be over kill? Am I being really silly by doing this? What are the downsides to wooden doors? We dont want to spend thousands on a decent pvc one that looks like this as we don't think it would be worth it on this property. Thank you for any advice!

I think it must be my brain telling me something because I have been extra conscious to do my pelvic floor exercises lately!

I have a beautiful wooden door, it expands and contracts and can be drafts but I love it.

UPVC doors are ugly, and not even remotely secure. Easiest doors to break into. A wooden door with decent locks is much safer.

There are much better non wooden doors available now. I'd have a look at those first.

We have a wooden front door & upvc back door, when we were burgled they came through the upvc door. Because of the amount of glass make sure you have good locks that can't be opened just by putting a hand through the window

For those with draughty wooden doors, we used to have the same problem with ours but if you line the edges of the door frame with the fluffy draught excluder tape that does a great job.

One advantage of timber doors is it is a lot easier to make changes to the door, such as improving the security.

If you choose to replace your plastic door with a timber front door, make sure it is draught proofed when it is installed. A good installer should do this for you as part of the service and it will keep your home warm.

Just go for a composite door, they look like wood but arent. I had a wooden door, I loved the look of it but it swelled up when it was wet and I couldn't shut it, blooming nightmare.

Agree with pp on the security aspect.
Someone tried to kick my PVC door in last year. I thought it was really secure - the locks didn't give but I didn't realise that the central panel can actually come away from the rest of the frame. Thankfully they didn't try hard enough.
Police recommended a composite door (Rockdoor) so I had mine replaced.
Before the PVC door I did have a wooden door but had problems when it was raining (probably warped a bit).
Am totally happy with the composite door cost me nearly £700 but can be cheaper - my doorway apparently not standard size???

The solution to the problem of burglars breaking the glass then putting their hand through to open the door from the inside is a Yale British Standard nightlatch. You lock it from the inside before you leave and it can't be opened without the key. It is difficult to drill or tamper with in other ways, and I'm pretty sure it is recognised as adequate by most insurers.

We did this - horrible pvc door changed to timber door - bright green with sunburst stained glass. We also have side windows. It is gorgeous! Feels v. Secure - double yale lock. Had to have it made along with a bespoke timber door frame - all in all cost £3200, but I think it was worth it.
