AIBU to ask for your suggestions on how to keep a bunch of 10 year olds entertained?

It's DDs 10th birthday in a couple of weeks. We'll be taking her skating with 6 or 7 of her friends and then back to our house for a birthday tea. I need ideas for how to entertain them back at the house for an hour or 2. It Will be a mixed group of 9 and 10 year olds. I think they are too old for party games but if any one has suggestions for games that work for this age group (limited space in house) i'd love to hear them.

Could you buy some plain white t shirts, and fabric paint, and get them to design their own t shirts?

Get lots of beads and do jewellery making?

Watch a dvd?

Get some cupcakes/fairy cakes, and icing, and get them to make their own?

At that age and in that number I probably wouldn't bother with games - feed them at the table, then stick on a dvd and after 15 mins or so bring out the cup cakes/party rings/bowls of pop corn, and 15 mins after party bags. They'll be tired after skating too!

They could make their own pizzas when you get home buy small individual ones from Aldi have all the toppings ready and chopped for when you get back and sit them at the table let them all make them stock them in the oven with some chips by the time they've done that and eaten and you done the cake will be an hour left to amuse themselves and play ( or run round wildly playing hide and seek in your wardrobes )

I think you can still play party games, but make them a bit more 'grown up'. EG as well as a sweet, forfeits or dares in each layer of pass the parcel. Dancing competition musical bumps/statues, etc etc etc

But agree with Leeds that they'd enjoy crafty activities too.

Will they not just want to hole up in her room? 9/10yos have a startling capacity to entertain themselves if they think they're being treated like adults.

I agree with decorating cakes. Perhaps also the party tea could be DIY pizzas? You can get plain single-serving pizzas in the chiller section in the supermarket, then have ham, pepperoni, mushrooms, sliced peppers, etc available.

Well mine are boys but they and their friends are really into board or card games at the moment- Catan, Risk, Cheat are all good for those numbers. My niece and her friends loved karyoke at that age, also henna tatoos .

Popular at dds 10th birthday party at home (7 girls) was a piñata (from Asda) and selfie cardboard Birthday props (eBay) and a selfie stick. And a chocolate fountain with marshmallows and strawberries.

I reckon they'll entertain themselves nicely, but have a DVD on hand if needed.

DIY pizza toppings is a fab idea if you have the space either in the kitchen or a big enough table.

My Guides love playing hide and seek in the dark, if you have black out blinds or curtains. Set ground rules for what rooms they're allowed in though.

We had selfie props, choc fountain, and karaoke machine.

Thanks for the ideas. It is a mixed group of boys and girls and they don't all know each other as DD recently changed school so don't want to rely on them entertaining themselves. DDs bedroom is too small for then all to play in.

I had a roller-skating party for my 10-year-old and they all came back for food. Kids played in dd's room, then had a massive game of hide and seek. Pretty easy party. If you are worried, do the chocolate game (massive bar of chocolate - kids throw a dice and if they throw a 6 they get to try and cut a piece off with a knife and fork, but first put on hat scarf and gloves).

The malteser tape measure challenge went down well with ds and friends at his 10th birthday - Google it!
