So im a single parent to 2 and have a dog! I work full time. Recently ive been asking around work if anyone knows a good cleaner and turns out someone does. I mentioned this in passing to my mum who was horrified! For background she worked 3 days a week and was married when we were younger

Im going to ask her to come on a Monday as i have a half day on Friday so can tidy before the weekend. My mum is judgemental i just avoid conversations about issues she can judge on

OliviaBonas · 25/01/2017 22:05

Do it!!! You'll never look back!!!

Do it. Best feeling ever coming home especially on a Thursday or a Friday to a gleaming house.

We had ours every fortnight and meant we just needed a quick scoot round. Well worth the money.

I'm a single mum and a student and I have a cleaner!

I suffer with depression, and I struggle to motivate myself to clean. The night before the cleaner comes I HAVE to have a good tidy up so that she can actually clean. And then my house looks all lovely when she's been. I am really busy in the last year of my degree so it's great to have her. For £20 a week my house never descends into too much of a shit tip.

I swear to god that in the modern world there is no more of a taboo around hiring a cleaner to do work you wish were done to professional standards than there is in getting a takeaway/meal in a restaurant instead of cooking or indeed a decorator instead of painting youself.

It is something you know you would like to spend your money on at some level but at the same time their is an archaic shame in getting any help (in some 'behind the times' quarters, like with mums or grandmothers.

Let me tell you as cleaners, We WANT to do the work (it increases our revenue) and you DO NOT want to do the work, therefore let us help you do the work without shame or ancient guilt from our mothers age.

At the same time please do not come to me to do the work as we are eternally short staffed for new clients cleaning business owner problems

But if you can find good service HIRE IT before it gets full!

Hiring a cleaning is cheaper than hiring a dog walker! you get the benefit of a clean house and knowing someone is there to let your doggy out in the day.

Chickoletta · 25/01/2017 22:17

Do it! It's an absolute life changer, especially getting home from work on a Friday to freshly made beds - even my kids love that.

If we were short of money there are literally hundreds of things I'd give up before my cleaner.

FrenchieCurls · 25/01/2017 22:19

Its £20 a week i think its worth it to have more time with my kids

I work full time doing lots of shifts and struggle to balance cleaning, work and family life. DH wanted a cleaner for a while, but I was too embarrassed to tell my mum as she worked full time and had three of us and did all the cleaning herself. Had made comments in the past like "who does she think she is?" About people with cleaners.

We got one under the agreement we wouldn't tell my mum. It was the best thing we've done! Saved so many arguments at home over who does what and coming home to a clean house when the cleaner has been is bliss. Days off are spent doing family things, not cleaning.

DH let slip to my mum who shocked me by saying it was the right thing to do. She admits that she regrets missing out on family time/day out and that I work hard enough, so why not? I was gobsmacked!

oldlaundbooth · 26/01/2017 01:28

If you were a man she'd expect you to get a cleaner.

glitterazi · 26/01/2017 01:29

Oh, totally do it if you can justify the cost and afford a cleaner!
My mum would be exactly the same as yours.
I'd have one now as a SAHM if I had the cash spare to fork out for someone to clean for me and free me up for other stuff.

pictish · 26/01/2017 09:07

old I think there's some truth in that. Maybe not in this particular case, but in general.
Men are 'allowed' to have cleaners, women are supposed to do it themselves.

Fucking ridic.
