Stolen buggy- tempted to Facebook shame - any advice?

I really need some advice as at the end of my tether. Apologies in advance for the long post. Last November I had my twin boys buggy stolen from my car when parked outside our house. Reported to Police who did not attend as "petty" crime, but they advised to check selling sites as it may appear on there which I have been doing ever since. Last Friday it popped up on a facebook selling site. I contacted police as advised and was told it was a low priority so they did not know when would attend. I therefore contacted the seller directly and arranged to view straight away. I visited the property, confirmed it was my buggy and called police immediately who said they would attend. Long story short the Police did not attend until next day after me ringing all night and surprise surprise buggy has been sold and they cannot provide details to police of who they brought it from or sold it to as their phone is broken 😒 I have been advised by Police they can take no further action. I have the sellers details and am very tempted to put on all local sites warning people not to buy anything from her. Advice please.

I'm sure the police are probably as frustrated as I am with situation. The irony is I am literally taking up probably hours of their time now because I won't let it drop whereas it could have been solved quite quickly if someone had paid a visit on the night. I probably would have taken the view of we have the buggy back so won't take any further which is what the police seem to want to do.

Wow I've read this entire thread. I'm so frustrated on your part! It happens here too (a city but not near you) it's so annoying! I don't think people realise how important a double buggy is until you have 2 kids who are buggy age (twins, childcare etc...) I hope you get it solved and please keep updating us.

TaliDiNozzo · 26/01/2017 14:58

Sounds like this has been made into a bigger nightmare than it needed to be by the police! Which like you say OP needn't have happened had they done something when you originally went round there!

barefoofdoctor · 26/01/2017 15:29

Bonfireheart 'in MY experience'. And quite clearly in OP's experience too.

TobleroneBoo · 27/01/2017 16:18

Ah OP your DP's post has just popped up on my local selling group! Cant believe you still havent had the help you need

JSSB · 27/01/2017 18:20

Hi. I was just popping on to give an update and see you have already seen it. We are getting nowhere with police at this time although there is no now no doubt in our minds they either took it or knew it was stolen when brought it. Have therefore resorted to posting on all sites we can think of. We have already been contacted by someone confirming our suspicions. Even if we don't get it back hopefully it will at least disrupt their activities for a while.

We have tried to be very careful with wording and just keep to the facts so we are not making any allegations.

You wonder why you pay your taxes to pay for police!!!

SeekingTheLight · 27/01/2017 18:55

Ugh! I'm so angry with you OP

As a bugaboo owner myself, apart from cost and practicality, it's the emotional aspect... Our babies carrier.

Fuck not naming and shaming! Bugaboos have individual serial numbers so you know it's yours!!

I hate thieves. Pram thieves have a special place in my loathing...

Truly sorry you are experiencing this and suffering the loss of your babies buggy.

Cherylene · 27/01/2017 20:24

Posting for support.

Hope you hear something useful. Probably too early to hope it leads to some action Flowers

JSSB · 27/01/2017 21:08

Thank you. We've had lots of people messaging us as they are outraged and can't believe what has happened.

idontwannaknow · 27/01/2017 22:41

Wow! What a joke, I bet they still have it tbh! I really hope you get it back. Angry

JSSB · 27/01/2017 22:47

I have to say I've not really posted on here before but the support has really cheered me up.

That's awful and infuriating! I can't help thinking that because it's a pram the police are treating it less seriously than they would a car of the same value, just actually seems a bit sexist.

shovetheholly · 28/01/2017 07:27

"Of course they are - all those rapists, paedophiles and murderers just arrest themselves do they?"

Well, my local force

  • ignored dozens of instances of rape because they thought working class girls were slappers who were asking for it
  • lied and then maliciously prosecuted miners at Orgreave
  • covered up their role in the manslaughter of Liverpool fans at Hillsboroigj and let the families go through decades of slurs and hell to get the truth
  • failed to properly investigate reports of celebrity paedophiles

Not only do I feel totally justified in saying they are useless, I'll add corrupt, dishonest, prejudiced, discriminatory and responsible for deaths and misery. I cannot understand why those in charge through these failures are not themselves behind bars.

Lynnm63 · 29/01/2017 03:56

Just read the whole thread and I'm angry on your behalf. You should definitely make an official complaint about the police.
Totally agree shovetheholly with your assessment of the police. It seems the only things they're good at is catching motorists doing 5 miles over the speed limit and 'hate crimes' on twitter.

insertimaginativeusername · 29/01/2017 18:35

Yes lynn, of course that's all the police are good at 🙄

bonfireheart · 29/01/2017 21:31

The "only" things

Buggy stolen from car - no proof
Buggy with X couple - no proof
Couple sold it on - no proof

Police with limited budgets

Lynnm63 · 30/01/2017 10:09

Bonfire if police had turned up they'd have had the buggy and op had proof of ownership.
insertimaginativeusername the police have become very politically correct and have moved away from 'hard' crimes to solve like burglary to easier targets like Twitter crime and motorists. They do catch most murders so my statement wasn't totally accurate but they've abdicated responsibility from a lot of crimes doing nothing more than issuing a crime number for your insurers. Mumsnet is predominantly middle class yet people like us think the police aren't on our side. Rule of law and policing is only by consent.

YouWillNotSeeMe · 30/01/2017 10:17

Hope someone comes forward or the brain of Britain magically leaves it in your doorstep

JSSB · 30/01/2017 10:49

As an update over the weekend we have been contacted by a number of people to let us know the boyfriend is a known car thief and has been done previously for handling stolen goods. All information has been passed to the police who have confirmed he is known to them. Not holding out much hope though for anything to be done. Angry

OP posts:
Ohbuggermebugger · 30/01/2017 10:53

OP I don't believe for a moment she's innocent.

If she had bought the buggy off someone else and than had another person (you) turn up, she should willingly join forces with you and give police the information on who she bought it from and who she has now sold it on to.

She's with holding information because she has something to hide.

Ohbuggermebugger · 30/01/2017 10:57

I know this will offer little comfort but.. my sister had her garage broken in to, childrens bikes stolen, lots of toys and stuff you normally store in a garage. A week later she then saw the local kids of a family of know thieves riding identical bikes the ones she'd had stolen, all 3 bikes were identical! When she called the police having already reported the theft at the time, the advice she got was "Don't approach them'. Police never followed up.

JSSB · 30/01/2017 11:57

I think it's fairly obvious what she has to hide. I've asked the police to let it be known that if we get the buggy back we will not take any further but I'm not holding my breath.

Has the new detective been any better OP?
