To be annoyed someone is pushing my wing mirror in?

Incredibly trivial problem alert!

At home I park ever so slightly on the pavement - but it's a wide pavement and there's definitely room for people, prams, wheelchairs and even scooters to pass. And yet someone keeps tucking in my wing mirror. AIBU to think it's a bit rude to touch someone else's car?

There are some streets where people have no choice but to part park in the pavement. And if you live in an area of terraced houses with narrow streets, parking elsewhere could be a 20 minute walk away. So it is commonplace.

donteverlookback · 24/01/2017 11:08

There are some streets where people have no choice but to part park in the pavement, respectfully brasty, the fact is that they do. They may choose not to, and hopefully incur a fine, and also hopefully don't cause injury or accident.

Having a car that needs parking does not give anyone the right to put it where they like, that is why we have laws. We all expect the law to protect us don't we, or is that just when it suits us?

Wellitwouldbenice · 24/01/2017 11:10

Yes, wing mirrors are at child head height and quite a hazard when they're on the pavement!

user1477282676 · 24/01/2017 11:10

Could it be someone with a double buggy? Pavement parkers piss me off. Cars have more space devoted to them than pedestrians do. Make do with what's on offer.

user1477282676 · 24/01/2017 11:11

Don'tLookBack exactly! That stupid old argument "Where else could I park!" with wide eyes and confusion.

Park in another street. Or a car park...or gasp! Buy a house with a DRIVE or a GARAGE!

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 24/01/2017 11:12

YANBU. It's really rude and would irritate me. Get a dash cam. Invaluable anyway and cheap. I got mine on Groupon for £17. Then inform your insurance company. They may give you a discount.

brasty · 24/01/2017 11:13

No they won't incur a fine. They would incur a fine if they did not part park on the pavement, and instead blocked the road.

donteverlookback · 24/01/2017 11:17

Blocking the road would be a choice, brasty, not a legal or moral right.

Redpony1 · 24/01/2017 11:17

user1477282676 Plenty of people cannot afford a house with a drive or garage!? and as has been said, parking on another street will just push people from that street to park elsewhere too. vicious circle....

Sentmeamonkey · 24/01/2017 11:19

It's rude to park on the pavement, it's also a pain in the ass when your child hits their head on a bloody sticky out mirror.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2017 11:21

No they won't incur a fine

Unless there are signs and markings to permit pavement parking, yes they can and will incur a fine if a ticketing person sees them.

That is something to consider when buying or renting a property. It doesn't give a person an excuse to park illegally.

Redpony1 · 24/01/2017 11:29

Of course it's something to consider soupdragon but the rental cost or purchase price of such a property can be and is often out of reach of the average Joe Bloggs.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2017 11:37

To be blunt, tough. It doesn't give them the right to park illegally.

user1484317265 · 24/01/2017 11:42

It's a lot less rude than parking on the pavement. Better they are pushing it in than knocking it off!

ArriettyClock1 · 24/01/2017 11:44

I would push it in too, if only to make a peaceful point.

Don't park on the pavement.

insan1tyscartching · 24/01/2017 11:49

Around here people pushing wing mirrors in has been an indication to others that there is stuff worth stealing left in the car. The local newspaper issued a warning that cars were having wing mirrors tucked in whilst it was light and then were broken into overnight. Hopefully your mirrors are only being moved because of your parking.

CatAmongPigeons · 24/01/2017 12:07

At home I park ever so slightly on the pavement

Lost me there. YABU. Completely. No excuses.

I lived on a street where all & sundry parked on the pavement. Never enough room for a pram or a wheel chair comfortably. I used to go down the street pushing in the wing mirrors as I needed to.

Then they made it residents only, and banned paring on one side of the street. Hurrah! Pedestrians had their right of way again.

YABU

Seems like an urban myth to me. Who would be pushing in the wing mirrors, and who are they telling? If they know there is stuff worth stealing why wouldn't they just steal it, instead of leaving a daft message for other criminals which could easily be there for any other reason? And how would they know there is stuff worth stealing anyway, unless it was visible, which would mean no need for a message at all?

Sounds like utter bullshit once you think about it, huh?

CatAmongPigeons · 24/01/2017 12:10

People always have a choice about parking. The first choice is, don't run a car.

SplendorSolis · 24/01/2017 12:11

I love those folding in wing mirrors. I visited the UK last year and rented a car, took me a few minutes to figure out that the reason I couldn't see through the passenger wing mirror was because it was folded in! We have them here too but no one ever needs to fold them in because we have vast amounts of spacious parking.

SpudULiked · 24/01/2017 12:17

YABU.

I really hate destest dislike pavement parkers.

Really really dislike them, we have them where I live.

If my DD scratches their car with her bike/scooter/trike then good - tough shit. Angry

Because if anything happened to her, because I had to walk in the road with her AROUND the pavement parkers, there would be little left of their cars, by the time Id finished with them.

and breathe.

GeorgeTheHamster · 24/01/2017 12:19

It's rude to park ever so slightly on the pavement too. Take the hint.

Lweji · 24/01/2017 12:19

Pushing wing mirrors in. Great idea.

Beware all badly parked cars that I meet. Grin

brasty · 24/01/2017 12:21

Yes true, you could just not have a car. But there are streets where you need to park part on the pavement, or no one who lives there could ever have a car.
