To expect at least an acknowledgement that I sent a cash present?

For Christmas, I changed £50 into the currency of the country where a young relative 13 lives, gave it to her dad who was over (child wasn't). AIBU to at least expect an acknowledgement that I sent something from the child? I don't mean anything more than a Whatsapp or Facebook message. Perfectly happy to accept I ABU.

YANBU, I always had to write out thank you cards at christmas and birthdays and it drove me mad as a child. Now that I'm a parent I encourage DCs to send a thank you to everyone who gives them gifts or money. It's downright rude to not acknowledge a gift.

Definitely rude not to acknowledge, a thankyou is so quick but so lovely no matter what the method.
