To think Anakin Skywalker is the most tedious character in the history of film?

DS(10) has inflicted a Star Wars marathon on us for the last few weekends. The old Star Wars, 4,5 and 6 were harmless hoakum, much enlivened by the lovely Harrisson Ford; Episode 1 was okay, (Liam Neeson is my favourite Jedi). But last nights Episode 2 and tonight's 3 are just dire.

Anakin is whingey, arrogant, humourless and creepy. His love scenes with Padme are like they were written by someone who has never actually spoken to a member of the opposite sex, let alone had a relationship. And his scenes with Ewan McGregor are not much better.

The actor is just so so poor. DD(17) and I are just sitting here cringing. DH has gone to sleep. DS is loving it. Sad

Force* see i was shaking with fury typos all over the place

Darmody · 23/01/2017 12:36

Obiwan is not dull

There is a subtle suggestion in Attack of the Clones that Obi-Wan is quite at home in some of the sleazier bars on Coruscant ;)

Eolian · 23/01/2017 12:38

YANBU. I love the original 3 films, liked Force Awakens and loved Rogue 1. The other three are pretty ghastly and Anakin is indeed a complete pain in the arse.

MsGameandWatch · 23/01/2017 12:45

There were a few little gems in the first three e.g. When Yoda was with the Wookies on their planet, I loved seeing more Wookies and I really did like Ewan as Obi Wan. Nevertheless it was not enough to save them that's for sure.

I blubbed at regular intervals throughout Rogue one I have to say. Was just too sad but so good though.

TheInternetIsForPorn · 23/01/2017 13:00

Rogue one was ok but it had a really obviously 'disney feel' for me. It didn't quite strike the right tone all the way through.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2017 13:12

I really liked that they didn't snog at the end of Rogue One. I thought it was good, but not amazing. I liked The Force Awakens better, although I was devastated than Han and Leia had split up, that really upset me.Grin

Ah, now I loved Rogue One (especially the absence of snogging), and thought that Han and Leia as divorcees was a brilliant piece of character development - seriously, they came across in the original films as exactly the sort of couple who'd try to build a fundamentally mismatched relationship on massive sexual chemistry and not a lot else, then when the initial excitement wore of, would find they had exactly nothing in common in the way of shared values.

But Anakin, frankly, in the immortal words of Molseworth's translation of Caesar, was "weeney, weedy and weak." And Padme should have LTB. And his grandson is basically "Darth Kevin-the-Teenager."

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2017 13:30

I read a review of Rogue One by Mark Kermode saying how cool it was that the film had this fantastic diversity in its cast.

Totally ignoring the fact that, as usual, there was one woman character. A couple of Jin's gang could so easily have been female.

OldBooks · 23/01/2017 14:11

Tinkly I had that poster up in my room at Uni Blush it was better than the actual film at showing the tragedy of corrupted innocence.

M0stlyHet · 23/01/2017 15:01

Ha, I can go one better (or worse) than Mark Kermode - I came across someone on a friend's tumblr having a rant about how it was a total diversity fail because although Jyn was a woman, she was a white cis-het woman so didn't count for diversity at all.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2017 15:06

Old you are right, the posters were better than the films Grin. But in many ways the whole Star Wars.....mythology, if you like...is better than the films. So many people love them but they don't stand up to any kind of scrutiny, even if you are a fan.

I thought Anakin in the 2nd one looked like Michael Jackson! and agree, totes cringeworthy. Little Anakin was so cute though.

my bugbear is in A new hope when Obi Jeremy Corbyn Kenobi sayd he doesn't remember owning a droid when R2 was with him in all 1st 3 films, plus was 3pos memory erased by the time they got to ANH?

and agree with poster about Leia saying she remembered her mother when Padme died in childbirth.

and that Chewie was never given a medal after the destruction oif the death star Sad.

now Kylo Ren is TRULY menacing. almost wish they hadn't done the back story of Vader, hes less scary now.

but nice the new hunk of SW is POE (tINKY WINKY DIPSY lA LA) Dameron.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2017 16:13

Chewie is apparently 267 and has a Wookie Life Debt to Han Solo because he saved him from prison.

Fascinating fact there from DS2 who is off school poorly today and needs to get out a bit more.

They could have tried a bit more. No reason why they couldn't have made more of the ground attack force female. But then they would probably have had to introduce some sort of love triangle, competition etc in because we all know that it's the rule that if there are 2 women or more in a team with some men in, then there has to be love and relationships involved....

Or made more of the fighter pilots female.

Loved the Easter Eggs though...

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 23/01/2017 19:36

Darth Kevin the Teenager! 😂😂😂

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/01/2017 20:17

Kylo Ren is not menacing. Pissed me right off with his lip quivering, mummy never hugged me enough, I'm so bad, attitude. Even teenage girls dont pout as much as he does.

LumelaMme · 23/01/2017 20:36

YABVVVU for starting a thread that has reminded me of Ja Ja bloody Binks.

Most irritating pita in a film EVER.

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/01/2017 20:37

Kylo Ren is a whiny little emo kid. I also couldn't stop seeing him as his character in Girls.

blackpoolassy · 23/01/2017 21:17

What is U is all the shite Lucas added into A New Hope ( which never used to be called that - another bugbear).
I wish I still had a video player do I could watch the original from its premiere on the television circa 83. The adverts were awesome too!

RandomDent · 23/01/2017 21:25

HK was so badly directed it's criminal. The sand lines were all about his slavery, his mother and the bad memories. But it just sounds like a whine. And don't get me started on the "I killed them all" speech. Insipid. :(

RandomDent · 23/01/2017 21:27

amispartacus one of the fighter pilots was female. And don't forget Mon Mothma.

iklboo · 23/01/2017 21:40

Have you read the theory that Jar Jar Binks is really a Sith Lord / Palpatine. Hiding in plain sight as a bumbling idgit messing things up? Interesting - and fun - reading.

iklboo · 23/01/2017 21:42

Sorry, Snoke - not Palpatine.

Here

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 23/01/2017 22:00

Yanbu. We are a star wars household to the point we are looking for a 4 bedroom house rather than 3 so we have somewhere to house the collection.

The prequel films are largely a joke and were handled shockingly. Having seen Hayden Christensen in other films I can confirm he is not a terrible actor. It's the material they were all given that's bad.

I do however have to stick up slightly for the prequels in that they had their moments. I will argue to my death that Qui Gon and Obi Wan vs Darth Maul is a stand out moment in the whole franchise. In particular the doors opening to Maul stood there (duel of the fates is the music here... Fabulous score from John Williams) him then powering up the double ended light Sabre... Brilliant.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2017 22:07

The duel with Darth Maul is not exactly fair though is it? Two against one, not really in the Jedi spirit I wouldn't have thought?
