To think a couple shouldn't count as one share?

I recently spent a weekend with two friends who are a couple. I'm single with a small baby. I paid half of the accommodation cost and when we went shopping for food I paid half. Now that I think about it though, I think everything should have been divided by three, so a share for each adult rather than them counting as one. AIBU?

You're assuming that it's 2/3 of the fare to get to the couple's house and a further 1/3 to get to the single person's Living. In my experience, it doesn't work out like that - the bulk of the fare is usually the travel from town to where the two drop offs are. So e.g it's a tenner to get to the single person's house and a further £2 to get to the couple's. It's monumentally unfair to split that £12 50/50. I'd rather get a taxi alone than have 'friends' sponge off me which is what you're advocating. If you split it 3 ways, everyone benefits. In your method, only the couple do.

Strangely a couple that I used to go out with thought that as I was single and they were a couple (I would buy food one week they would buy the food the next), that I was getting the better deal.

It came as a shock when we started to buy our own each week and they were quite put out when I refused to go back to the original arrangement.

In your last scenario then it depends on the size of the room and whether the person on their own would have been willing to share or not.

If they didn't want to share
If it was a smaller room then thirds each or 40/30/30. Same size room then half per room so the two sharing pay 1/4 each, single person half.

If the person in the single room would have been happy to share but had no one to share with then 1/3rds each.

This is making my head hurt a little bit now. Thanks for your input though!
