To think watching DD2 learn to crawl is like pulling teeth?!

DD2 is nearly 9 months. She's been sitting up since 6 months but no movement for ages until finally just before Christmas she started to try to get going.

She can go forward over her legs onto her hands and knees (IYSWIM) but then without fail, sinks down onto her tummy. Then she thrashes and screams and waves her arms because she can't move! She can tuck her knees under and lift her bum when she is face down screaming into the carpet but can't coordinate front and back ends!

She is DC #3 so I am in no way desperate for her to crawl - too many tiny lego and barbie pieces all over the place - but God, it's getting old listening to her complain!!

Did you find this stage annoying?! Confused

My mistake. She was after the dog chew.

ABC I've just laughed so much imaging that!

YAB a bit U. Dd1 crawled at almost the first attempt before 6 months, less than 2 weeks after sitting up. I'm not stealth boasting, it was a fucking nightmare. She was in to everything and I had to take her to the toilet with me. I longed for a few more stationary months. Grin

Oh no, not frustrating, just extremely cute!

My pfb never crawled, just "swam" across our hard floors. She's 16 now.

My DGD hardly crawled at all. She did what you are describing with your DD,from about 8 months. Then at 11 months she suddenly pulled herself up to a standing position. She spent a month cruising round the furniture (still no interest in crawling) then 3 days before her 1st birthday she took her first unsupported steps. On the other hand, her mother (my DD) was very late to crawling (she was in and out of hospital between 5 and 7 months so think this may have delayed her progress). She didn't crawl at all until she was 11 months then she started crawling on her hands and feet, not her knees. It was quite funny watching her scuttle around, bum in the air. My DM said she looked like some 'monster insect' Grin. She didn't get to her feet until she was 14 months, and was walking unsupported just 2 weeks later.

Tara silly me I haven't thought of that! I'm going to try it. DS is sitting up on his own from 4 months (he's 5 months now), then from the seated position gets into the crawling one, but crawls backwards. He has the movements but just can't go forward.

My name will be mud on here if all these mumsnet babies successfully get the hang of crawling and spend the weekend getting into everything. Grin
