AIBU to not want to spend £2k on a boiler that we wont get the benefit of?

Posting here for traffic as need to make decision by tomorrow morning.

Our house went up for sale this week. First viewings booked for Sunday. Today the boiler stops working.

The boiler is old and has been a bit dodgy for a while.

Plumber came round today to try and fix it. He thinks it could be the fan, or possibly the gas valve, but not certain. Fan would cost £300, bit then valves may also need to be replaced.

Alternatively He can replace like with like on Friday and replace whole boiler for £2k.

WWYD? It's a lot of money to shell out that we won't get the benefit of, so I'm loathe to do it, but there's no guarantee the patching up will work in time for first viewings.

I'm a gas engineer and never once have I been unsure if it's the fan or possibly the gas valve.

If he is unable to diagnose which part is wrong I wouldnt be confident that he would fit a new boiler without issues.

engineersthumb Now lets see about product quality. Old boiler alluded to is a Glowworm a very simple device and its been no bother at all.

More recent houses later modes one three yes 3 PCB (control boards) a stupid leak that destroyed a transformer and a replacement kit was needed. Next two PCB's and a leaking heat exchanger plus a few other odds and sods and the other one that quite old can't remember irs name off the top of my head but no bother that might be a Glowworm of some vintage.

Now where do you want to start on the flecking pile of pooh Suprima 80 that this place has?. PCB's exchange ons by the bucket load, gas valve, fan twice and other bits over time.

Meanwhile old old original one down the road chugs on I'll get a temp meter sometime and see what the exhaust gas is running at its not that hot at all probably is more efficient in practice that the figures might have us believe!.

We're in Scotland so the old boiler has already been priced into the home report survey.

Ah in that case I would say fix only.

If you were England I'd have said replace because otherwise their offer will have assumed a decent boiler and they'd likely renegotiate post survey (which is really painful and to be avoided).

But if the buyers already know it has an ancient boiler and made their offer based on that then there's no room for renegotiation, as long as it's actually working.
