Hey just a quick thread to ask if I would be u to hoover right now? I live in a terraced house. Would would be the usual protocol. Neighbours don't do anything to annoy me and keep themselves. Never had any noise from them either.

Hell with it. I'm going to do it now otherwise I'm wasting time. Will ask hq to delete thread

I've just hoovered my downstairs! Thought this was going to be a thread from my neighbour complaining about it...

soundsystem · 15/01/2017 21:42

I'm in a mid-terrace. Neighbour hoovering now wouldn't bother me.

I think normal protocol is don't be noisy after 9pm on a school night. I suppose it depends how loud your Hoover is and whether it's going to go on for ages!

5OBalesofHay · 15/01/2017 21:42

It's bedtime. Why would you make unnecessary noise on a terrace

Hidingtonothing · 15/01/2017 21:43

I would OP, my DM is weird about stuff like this, won't even use her washer after about 9pm but I think it's just normal living noise.

soundsystem · 15/01/2017 21:43

(It's just occurred to me I don't think I've ever heard my neighbours on either side hoovering. And I assume they do...)

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 15/01/2017 21:43

I think a quick hoover is fine.

MixedUpConfusion · 15/01/2017 21:46

My NDN hoovers about 6am before she goes to work. Every. Morning... now that is inconsiderate, often wakes me up and I get little enough sleep Angry

Emmerdalefan · 15/01/2017 21:47

Why suddenly now for hoovering, ?

Emmerdalefan · 15/01/2017 21:48

Have u been at work all day or is it just a random impulse to hoover ? If the latter then leave hoovering

Emmerdalefan · 15/01/2017 21:49

What is NDN ?

Starlight2345 · 15/01/2017 21:50

You are aware how thick your walls are. Kids that have just gone to sleep. Hoovering upstairs downstairs.

You know the situation.

Ethylred · 15/01/2017 21:51

Ooh a hoovering thread. Hoovering will be my special subject on Mastermind, and I say: hoover away my dear, and I hope you have a fine day for it.

PetalMettle · 15/01/2017 21:53

8am-10pm for me I think on a weekday. 9am on a weekend

Artandco · 15/01/2017 21:55

Sure. We live in a flat, I have never heard a neighbour hoover at anytime of day, that's what walls are for

CatsRidingRollercoasters · 15/01/2017 21:56

Ethylred I think I love you Grin

kel12345 · 15/01/2017 21:57

I wouldn't do things like Hoover or use the washing machine at this time. I'm end of terrace. My neighbour has a child so I wouldn't want to disturb them unnecessarily.

DramaAlpaca · 15/01/2017 21:57

I'd do it, a quick hoover is fine.

Artandco · 15/01/2017 22:54

Kel- we always start washing machine overnight. Fill up, on timer so it's turns on around 4am washes then dries (washer/dryer), so by 7am it's washed and dry and just folded.

hotdiggedy · 15/01/2017 22:57

The new neighbours underneath me decided to hoover their wooden floorboards at 1am a few nights ago. And do a bit of DIY (as you do). People are often selfish and thoughtless but it wouldn't bother me too much if neighbours hoovered at 9.40 occasionally.

ilovesooty · 15/01/2017 23:06

Why would you ask for the thread to be deleted?

MixedUpConfusion · 15/01/2017 23:09

Emmerdalefan Next door neighbour

Wishforsnow · 15/01/2017 23:10

Can't see an issue people need to hoover and some people work nights. Some people expect to not hear a pin drop but I would hope they are very much in the minority

IDSNeighbour · 15/01/2017 23:14

Gosh, YANBU. 9.40 is early.

I have hovered after midnight several times. I don't get home till 11pm most nights so not much of an option if it needs to be done.

Never occurred to me that anyone might hear. And if they do then, tbh, it's got to be less disturbing for them than it is for me to hear lawn mowers on Sunday mornings when I'm trying to get some sleep.

IRegretNothing · 15/01/2017 23:17

Hmmmn not sure. I don't think the hum of a hoover is particularly disturbing. It's irregular banging noises or shouting that's the worst or unidentifiable noises that have you lying awake in bed thinking what is that?!
If you do, just be sure not to bang the skirtings!
