To put the mussel shells in the food waste recycling?

Currently eating moules mariniere, and I was just pondering the clear-up. Do the shells go in normal bins or food recycling bags?

I appreciate this is quite a middle-class dilemma. Please help!

Our food waste goes to biofuel rather than compost so if yours takes bones then throw them in, if not, use to prevent weeds in your garden or wash and save for the seaside.

Smash them up put on the garden loads of calcium in them. Why waste

@Elsiemary1302 people are questioning why you replied to the thread because it’s over five years old. You were answering a question someone asked over five years ago. If you are new to Mumsnet you may not realise how it works but typically people don’t reply to threads that have been dormant for so long, since the person who asked the question presumably isn’t still waiting for an answer.

Neither of course. You should wash them then fire up your glue gun and make art on boxes or plant pots then sell them for crazy prices at craft fairs.
