Started to train my DS 2.6 a few days ago and he got it on the second day but now it's gone to pot.

How do I get him trained? Someone please help me/give me advice!

Oh goodness yes the get bored of it phase which nobody mentions. The novelty wears off and they cba with the loo. Especially when it's upstairs. Dd would say "can I have a nappy?" Or "have I a nighttime nappy on?" and then get cross when the answer was no. She also decided she didn't like the loo (it was boring but she could come up with a multitude of more inventive reasons why she didn't want to use it) about 4 months after

Cavemum, just wanted to echo what others have said. Don't worry about going back. My dd was the same, we tried and she was doing ok but then completely flipped about pants and wouldn't go near a toilet. So she went back in nappies and I left her to it. But the potties were left out and the pants were in her drawer just in case. One day she asked to wear her pants and only spent a couple of weeks on the potty before she preferred the toilet. No major accidents other than once with a poorly tum.

OP if he's distressed I'd be tempted to take a step back, but if it's just accidents i would probably set a few days aside to stay at home and concentrate on hourly potty stops and use rewards if you want for positive results.

Oh I forgot, we did 2 types of reward. 1- instant. Chocolate button each time she went on potty. This changed after a week to one per day if she used potty each time. Because I was sick of buying buttons then eating them myself on repeat. 2- bigger reward to look forward to. Each time she used potty, she got a sticker which went on a board. When the board was full up, we'd take her on a special day out, wherever she wanted. This way, she saw progress, talking about the stickers, and an instant reward. Good luck!!

I waited until dts were just turned three. Two days at home naked in the garden (summer) and they were reliably dry within a couple of days.

With two of them I couldn't deal with the stress of them not being totally ready so held off as long as possible.

One was dry at night a couple of weeks later, the other not until just turned 5.

Mine had aborted PT attempts from around 2.6yrs. I let it wait until the Xmas's after they turned 3 and did it then. They got it within a couple of days and only had a handful of accidents.

Just remembered I put mine in pull ups for months and had a potty and child toilet seat set up so they could practice going to the toilet but without accidents. If they chose the potty / toilet it was great but there wasn't any pressure to do so.

Dd (2.2) decided she'd had enough of nappies and started taking them off and hiding them, so we started to train her. She seemed to get it in daycare, but elsewhere she'd just wee all over herself, the floor, the furniture etc. Just before Christmas I put her back in nappies at 2.6yrs. We'll give her 2 months then try again. Daycare a bit scandalised, but hey ho....

Previous DS completely trained in 5 days, so I think dd's just not ready yet.

DT1 was 2.5 and toilet trained in a day. She peed her pants once and then decided it was gross and never did it again.

DT2 was a nightmare!! She was nearly 4 by the time she was reliably dry. She started nursery in pull ups as she just was not getting the sensation that she needed to pee.

So i had one really easy one and one pain in the arse/slow starter. It really surprised me though as DT2 was the first to crawl, walk and talk so I assumed she would be the easier one to toilet train.
