To ask if anyone's had a toddler with loads of ear infections?

DS is 2.5, he's on his second nasty ear infection this winter, complete with stinky leaky ear Sad and a high temp. He's really miserable. Seen GP, he's on amoxi and the max doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen. Last winter he had ear infections every few weeks between October and April. He's seen a lovely consultant but the appointments are quite far apart and most of them seemed to be in the summer when his ears weren't bad, so nothing could really be done. His hearing doesn't seem affected.

When do toddlers grow out of them? Has anyone had a DC with a treatment that's worked? I hate him being on ABs every few weeks!

My DS (5.5) had regular ear infections, a couple of burst ear drums and speech delay when we had an in depth hearing test Jan 2015. Severe glue ear and hearing loss so went on the NHS list. Luckily managed to go private and had adenoids removed and grommets inserted and thankfully things are a lot better and after a tough reception year at school he's doing really well in Year 1. Don't discount the need for a good hearing test. We thought his ears were ok and we were wrong.

Sorry adenoids removed and grommets inserted June 2015. Only one infection / burst drum since then.

Has he had the pneumonia coccle vaccine? My DD had nine treated ear infections (more if you count the Ines that never made it to penicillin.) It all stopped when she was vaccinated.

I think because it's smelling you ought to see someone before March, unless this has always been the case.

Yes my son did, it was a miserable time as he vomited profusely with every one. It seemed to be linked to teething, never had another since last baby tooth came in.

Somedays no he never took a dummy, we tried a few times when he was a few weeks old but it always got spat out!

I'll check out that vaccine Empress, he's had all his usual ones, was that an additional one?

Jennifer I spoke to the practice nurse on Tuesday and mentioned the smell, he'd seen the GP on Monday but at that point it wasn't leaking (the GP said his eardrum was bulging but unlikely to rupture, it started leaking about an hour after we got home Confused) Every time he gets the leaky ears the smell is there and I've mentioned this to everyone he's seen, so it seems to be normal for him Sad Previous swabs of the fluid have often picked up bugs that require drops (although not always), so if it's still as bad in 24 hours I'll ring and ask about that again.

Mini that's really interesting, it was such bad timing with the last hearing test - the appointment was 3 days after his first ear infection of this winter in Dec 2016, I rang ENT to say he had an infection and could they still do the test but the secretary didn't know and said to bring him anyway...I did, and the consultant looked in his ears, said she couldn't do it while he had the glue ear and gave us another appointment in 12 weeks, which is the March one!
