I have nc as outing and I don't want my other posts linked.

DC has sen which affect their learning, all through primary I have fought tooth and nail to get her a diagnoses and then help. Just to be clear in year 5 she had a level of 1c which is pretty bad when they are expected to get a level 4 in year 6. She spent primary school saying she was thick and stupid and rubbish and crying every damn day she had to go through the gates.

Fast forward to secondary school and with help she is doing great, she finally loves school. Only the government has changed the goal posts with GCSE scores.

So this kid who was at a 1c is now working at a low gcse grade c sort of target in most subjects and even a high B grade in some others. I would have been bloody ecstatic if you had told me in year 5 she would be working at a grade C level for her gcses, flaming thrilled.

But no a low C is no longer a 'good pass' anymore, you have to get a high C under the new rules so instead of getting 5 gcse Cs , 2 Bs and 1 D like she would have done she is only going to get 2 good passes instead and her report is all reds because of the low Cs which has further reinforced the fact she is thick and stupid and can't do it in her head and I hate them for it.

Op the system seems to be becoming increasingly selective and it makes me fear for my dc educational and career prospects.

Ds left his a levels after the first year and is now studying at btec level 3 and thriving. This is often seen as an academic fail but I feel hopeful that this will help ds to open doors to future career possibilities.

The grass is not always greener else where though. I have friend who was told that her dd is bright enough to be accepted at the gymnasium (grammar/academic) where she lives, dd is 11.

I think for the first 1/2 yrs of new system the old c will be accepted by further education and buisiness are being told the old c equivilant is still a good pass according to d of e site.

Still think it sucks and feel sad for dc who must feel the rug is being pulled from under them.

No need to move. She will probably blossom when she gets to college and does a vocational course. Keep her focused on whatever her end goal career is and say 6th form college (I'd be inclined to send her to one and not use the schools college) is completely different and she'll fly there

Yanbu.
It seems to be a system determined to make a lot of children feel like failures.
My DS missed a lot of school early on and didn't get great GCSE results because of this, however he now is on a really good apprenticeship. What impressed them in the interview was the other things he had achieved.
DD is predicted A's in most subjects but hates school and struggles with anxiety. Can't wait until she leaves tbh.
