To think I'm not paranoid or insane...?

Admittedly I would not have done this but for Trump-induced fear...

BUT I don't think it's anything but sensible to have stored a few tinned goods, bottles of water and other survival (for maybe 72 hours) bits and bobs (think matches and first aid kit sort of thing) set aside...?

OH is mocking me for being a paranoid redneck hellfire and damnation prepping type - which I am not. Should the end of the world come, I hope it takes me down with it... And really, there's only so much you can prep for in an outer London dinky flat.

But in the (far more likely event) that shit happens, but after a few days things all right themselves again, a few supplies in would surely not go amiss...?

YANBU. I live in NJ and when Hurricane Sandy hit we lost power for a week but also had a very damaged infrastructure . Not having power meant losing all our fresh and perishable foods , stores losing their goods ,the roads being impassable due to fallen trees so no deliveries etc to stores...no internet or cell phone access due to tower being down...
Also gas stations ran out of gas and ATMs didn't work so if you didn't have cash you were Unable to buy anything.
We can lose power during a heavy snow storm so we purchased a generator to keep our koi fish alive, not lose our food, charge our phones, charge mini DVD player to entertain kids etc.
I always keep flashlights, batteries, rolls of paper towels , extra medication for son, dried foods and canned foods on hand. Also I always have some extra cash in the house

You can drink it of course, and in an emergency you would use every clean source you could. Ideally though, by rotating, it is always fresh, you catch any leaks/crushed bottles/etc that can sometimes happen if people pile other stuff on top of the case of water.
You don't have to do it every three months or silly like that, but at least every 8 or 12 months.

After experiencing a five day power cut, in December, due to flooding, I was extremely grateful for my smallish stockpile! Especially as even after it was possible to get over the river to the shops, none were open as no power or flooded. Those that were open ramped up prices for stuff like tinned food, candles and calor gas to a ridiculous level.

YANBU.

I have 6 x 5l of bottled water that we use and rotate also I have what I call my zombie apocalypse survival kit containing a wind up/solar torch/radio. Wind up torches for each family member, calor gas and stove, fully charged booster to charge iPads/phones. Matches and head torches as well as foil blankets and first aid kit.

We had a four day power cut a few years ago and although it was in the summer it made me wonder how we'd cope if it'd happened in the winter.
Two months ago we had two days without water and I felt pretty pleased that we had enough water to keep us going. I also keep enough food in for two weeks inc tins and dried food. We have a log fire too so in the event of a power cut we have some means of keeping warm.

I wouldn't want to be without my kit as it stops the panic when something goes wrong and it never hurts to be prepared.

Depends if you want to be the only ones left in the aftermath
