to think you should ignore people having a go at you if you are the President Elect of the USA

Rather than having a go at them on Twitter and describing them as second rate actresses. Hmm

Otherwise some people might just think you're a bit sensitive.

If that's how he's going to react when people call him out on things, he's going to have a very long 4 years in the White House

He'd wish he had CJ.

It has sort of been Kellyanne, the poor thing. She's clearly sold her soul.

But it's Sean Spicer. Maybe. Can't figure out if the named Communications Director has quit or not.

It seems that Trump's SS (!) has threatened to thrown a CNN reporter (the one prevented from asking the question) from the press conference.
mediamatters.org/video/2017/01/11/cnns-jim-acosta-reports-incoming-press-secretary-spicer-threatened-throw-him-out-trump-press/214977

I suppose the initials suit him.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 21:27

BTW, if you haven't seen it, you might enjoy this.

user1482354699 · 11/01/2017 21:32

Telegraph homepage right now

President elect says intelligence agencies acted like Nazis
Almost certain Russian spies have sex dirt on Trump
Cartoon referencing Trump starting WW3

I paraphrase but the contempt is barely disguised. Are they sensing inevitable impeachment? Or willing it (like many of us)
You could not make these headlines up. Try replacing "Trump" with "Obama" - you just cannot do it.
Crawls back into box, "bigly"

Lweji · 11/01/2017 21:33

It's significant when The Telegraph and The Guardian agree with each other:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/11/trumps-trainwreck-press-conference-ushers-in-a-clueless-presidency

Lweji · 11/01/2017 21:35

You only have to look at JFK and Clinton to know that politicians don't need to be squeaky clean.

Yes, but as far as we know, none of them were working for Russia.

RedToothBrush · 11/01/2017 21:37

Aren't the press supposed to stand up and be respectful to the President once he is in charge?

Obama gave a lecture in democracy last night. Good on him.

The Press in a democracy are supposed to hold the government to account. They are not supposed to be 'nice' to anyone because of their position. They are supposed to eat the President alive if he is covered in shit.

It is a worrying sign that few people asked probing questions at the press conference and other media outlets are not supporting CNN (Buzzfeed is a slightly different matter) and the BBC have to all intents and purposes have been given a warning to 'play nice'.

There is other stuff going on which I'm not going to post here as its 'inappropriate'. Suffice to say, its 'alarming' from a British POV and I am unnerved.

PacificDogwod · 11/01/2017 21:40

Yes, I am disquieted as well, Red, v much so.

I am sincerely hoping that he will be removed from office before he has a chance to do too much damage.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 21:42

I watched Sky News earlier on the conference and I don't think they were holding back at all. I haven't seen the BBC.

I suspect it will be killing fields for all the vaguely political and even the non political comedy daily shows, let alone SNL and similar.

Trump is in for a hard time. I doubt he'll be able to turn on his TV tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2017 21:43

I'd be interested in that other stuff RTB. It is very worrying if the press are being suppressed. CNN was very sensible in its reporting. How long before they are forced into submission?

amispartacus · 11/01/2017 21:46

I haven't seen the BBC

The BBC asked a question just after CNN got refused. I don't think he's got much respect for the BBC either.

QUESTION: From BBC news. Ian Pannell from BBC news.

TRUMP: BBC news. That's another beauty.

Likewise, I am interested to hear you expand on your concerns RedToothBrush.

user1482354699 · 11/01/2017 21:50

....and the indexed Guardian soundbite is "Trumps trainwreck press conference ushers in clueless presidency"

Yes the press are there to hold politicians and governments to account but one expects the tone (usually) to be mature and the language temperate. There is quite a noticeable lack of restraint going on.

This quote is just missing a comma and the word (give or take) bigly

FarAwayHills · 11/01/2017 21:50

His contempt for the press and anyone who dares to question him is just astonishing. I'm just waiting for home to command 'off with their heads'

FarAwayHills · 11/01/2017 21:51

*him

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2017 21:51

here's the bit where he refuses to answer a question from cnn.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 21:53

Just watching BBC World News Outside Source.

Starting with Obama's goodbye speech.
Greece and the refugees.

BTW, Davos (!) starts again in 7 days. I suppose they will all be drinking themselves stupid, hiding under the tables, shaking in fury, and what not.

And I'm looking forward to the White House Correspondents' Dinner next Spring. Some questions in my mind:
a) will there be any correspondents left?
b) will Trump attend?
c) if there are any correspondents will they attend?
d) how will the jokes (jibes, probably) be received?
e) off the cuff or carefully scripted?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2017 21:53

bloody hell amispartacus. Two of the most reputable tv news channels.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 21:56

Ah, Trump.

The BBC starts with the Nazi mention.
Then "ISIS nº 1 tricky"
Finally, CNN and when he refused to answer their question.

If the BBC got orders someone didn't read them.
No comments made or needed, really.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 11/01/2017 21:57

Derxa, the fear and loathing about trumps presidency is not simply because he's not 'squeaky clean'. You appreciate that I'm sure.

amispartacus · 11/01/2017 22:00

Is Trump gaslighting America?

edition.cnn.com/2017/01/10/opinions/donald-trump-is-gaslighting-america-ghitis/index.html

He does things. Says things. Then denies it and attacks people for daring to question it.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 22:00

OhYouBadBadKitten

He didn't actually answer the BBC's question either. :)

I meant earlier that I hadn't seen the BBC coverage or reports about it.

i did see their question.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 22:03

Is Trump gaslighting America?

Do you have to ask?

I get a feel in this that "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

amispartacus · 11/01/2017 22:05

He seems quite good at not answering questions. He's probably been watching PMQs.

Does anyone know the dead cat strategy? Something so outrageous happens that people focus on that and ignore other stuff that's going on?

Cameron was good at that. It's a great way of distracting people by saying something outrageous so they forget what was being talked about.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 11/01/2017 22:12

I'm not surprised that the Guardian are agreeing with the Telegraph under the circumstances. Something is afoot.

This is why every British news outlet should agree with each other:

Jon Favreau ‏*@jonfavs*
If Trump refuses to answer a reporter's question because he doesn't like their outlet, the next reporter should ask the same question.

When is he coming to the UK then? Look forward to a press conference that won't happen...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2017 22:12

the bbc tonight don't appear to know where to start with him. They just seem flabbergasted.
