On a train, woman with a dog, loud, outgoing, charming, bit quirky. Guard came for tickets. She asked him if she gave him a tenner, would he let her have a ticket for a pound (Durham to London). Unbelievably, he did. She was squealing with delight, kissed him and told everyone around her. He stuffed the money in his pocket and went on his merry way. I told her I couldn't believe that had just happened. She bellowed, oh fuck it, he's on low wages, who cares. WIBU to be shocked?

OP, if there was a LTB element to this your story would absolutely be believed and by now you'd be swimming in adulation.

As it is, the kids are at school and everyone now wants to play Miss Marple! You saw what you saw. Now the big question to really set this one alight......was the dog gender fluid? Was the fur coat real and if so we need to discuss those poor mink?

And lastly, was she all fur coat and no knickers?!

Ah so maybe he voided her ticket and changed it to a return?

Can't understand why you haven't reported him. That's corruption . You've witnessed a crime.

but he kept the tenner, but bus drivers also pocket the notes, and then put them in the appropriate place afterwards.
you've been had op.
she had a single, she wanted to change it for a return, but she Did give him a tenner so it cost Her a tenner?

So basically she had a single and turned it into a return for the correct added fee of £1? You can actually do this (well you can on ScotRail) so he really shouldn't have taken the tenner anyway as he wasn't doing anything wrong.

I don't know what wages they're on and I'm not commenting on it - it's what she said when I asked her about it.

I'm on a train again right now - nothing exciting happening so far, other than a M&S strawberry quinoa breakfast pot is the most god awful thing I've tasted in a long time and totally inedible.

I don't dispute what you saw
But i don't believe it was a bribe. Honestly he will have known her. If you're going to take a bribe you don't do it like that !
I've worked in bars and restaurants before now where customers i know will make jokes like that - for example I hadn't enough change earlier in the night and a regular said oh that's fine keep the tenner I just won't pay for the next one. So we were square by the end of the night. But when he came for his next drink he was making jokes like "oh go on gimme a free one love" . No one was really around to see so it didn't matter but she probably was just getting a return and he knew her already. People are funny like that .

Quinoa in BREAKFAST? Can't imagine that !

He didn't know her. I wouldn't bet my house on it granted but no way did he know her. She was just a random woman on a train. I wasn't mistaken, he took money off her as a 'tip' or bribe. WIBU then to report it? The main reason I haven't is cos there's no way of proving it. He'd just deny it.

Just, it's revolting, don't waste your money on it.

So she flamboyantly tipped him a tenner needlessly for processing a completely legitimate transaction and made a big noisy hooha?

I can see why he took it Smile

I don't believe you about the quinoa Wink

I totally believe it's revolting but it can't imagine it and I feel I need to try

Boots (I think?) have some very dubious grain pots in suddenly too. Nothing like a bandwagon is there?

All the conductor has done is excess her ticket from a single to a return, which you are right in saying is usually £1 more. The £10 was probably the admin fee for doing so, which most train companies charge. She thinks she's got a result but in reality the conductor has done their job properly and their machine will balance at the end of the day.

Tickets for a 5 year old are a £1 on our trains. I wonder if he gave her a child ticket and she'll be fucked when she tries to go through the barriers (and gets caught)

Ha, this is making me laugh now! At least I can prove the quinoa!! It's got sunflower seeds in it and a blob of strawberry on the top. There's a mango one too.

That was a tad risky as anyone sat around could have worked for the company and he would have been in bother.

I believe you OP. Once a flight attendant said to me that if I gave him £50 he'd let me sit anywhere I liked on the plane (I.e first class) only I didn't have any bloody cash on me!! I would've in a heartbeat had I had it.

."I wonder if he gave her a child ticket and she'll be fucked when she tries to go through the barriers (and gets caught)"

How would the barriers know that it's an adult with a child's ticket if that's the case?

Aww don't report it op I'm sure lots will tell you too but is it really worth someone losing their job over a tenner.

Report
plimsolls · 09/01/2017 09:26

diddl they usually beep or it flashes up on the screen, depending on the type of barrier. Station staff have a look to see who has gone through when they hear the beep.
