Help...super spicy chilli

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/01/2017 19:38

AIBU to ask for help, I just made the hottest chilli in the world as I added loads of hit hillingdon powder (I thought it was paprika!) And now it's "blow your tits off" hot. I need ideas fast, is there any way to cool it down? Sorry it's not a proper AIBU but I need quick responses so posting for traffic

Serve with lots of sour cream and guacamole?

harderandharder2breathe · 08/01/2017 19:40

I assumed Hillingdon was some posh brand Grin

NotSayingImBatman · 08/01/2017 19:40

Swirl through some plain yoghurt.

musicteacheriz · 08/01/2017 19:40

Condensed milk? Coconut milk? Cream?

poppym12 · 08/01/2017 19:41

Yoghurt

Laska5772 · 08/01/2017 19:41

Eat it with some plain Yoghurt (also dont drinking water wont help much -milk is better)

Watto1 · 08/01/2017 19:41

I posted an identical thread a couple of years ago! Plain yoghurt was recommended. Unfortunately I only had raspberry yoghurt in so I knocked that idea on the head. Cream? Cheese? Cream cheese? Good luck! I think I had to bin mine Sad

Allalonenow · 08/01/2017 19:42

Divide in half, add more beans and tomatoes to one half for tonight and use the other half another time.
Or serve with plenty of plain yoghurt or sour cream and cucumber.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/01/2017 19:43

I always have bloody yoghurt apart from.the one time I need it, and DS is asleep so can't nip out. I will get some for the leftovers though (I've made a bloody huge pan of it). I'll search through the cupboard for coconut milk. Do you think as a last resort I could add some normal milk or would that be disgusting?

GretchenFetchem · 08/01/2017 19:43

Normally I'd add extra tinned, chopped tomatoes and tomato puree to a chilli that was too hot, but it doesn't sound viable given just how spicy it currently is! I second serving it with something cooling like sour cream and maybe a glass of milk!

Blazedandconfused · 08/01/2017 19:43

Plain yoghurt. My dad used to cook painfully hot curries/ chillis but always kept the fridge stocked with yoghurt. I'd get through tons of the stuff.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/01/2017 19:44

Allalone good thinking, I will divide it up and buy natural yogurt for the rest of it tomorrow. Fucking fuck.

Don't add milk to it!! Do you have more tomatoes?

Blazedandconfused · 08/01/2017 19:44

Nigella adds milk to tomato sauce. It's fine.

GretchenFetchem · 08/01/2017 19:44

If you boil and reduce normal milk down so it's a bit thicker that would work. I wouldn't add it straight from the carton!

BearGryllsHasaBigRope · 08/01/2017 19:44

Do not add milk!! The suggestion to split it and add more toms and beans seems the best so far.

harderandharder2breathe · 08/01/2017 19:44

I've added milk to curry when I've made it too hot, it's always been fine but that's just for myself

jusdepamplemousse · 08/01/2017 19:44

Adding some sugar will help with the heat a little.

hefzi · 08/01/2017 19:45

I've done similar (paprika / chilli): normal milk is surely worth a try (I used yoghurt) if it's inedible otherwise....

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/01/2017 19:45

I might add another tin of beans to try and dilute the spice per portion then try the reducing milk thing on a small portion first. Thanks for all the helpful and quick replies

I'm a chef and adding milk or cream is fine and will help reduce the heat.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/01/2017 19:46

Thanks crispbutty I will give it a go.

Order a takeaway and have the chilli tomorrow with yoghurt and guacamole - a. that will cool it down, and b. it will calm down a lot overnight anyway.
