to be concerned about this dog?

Next door neighbours have a staffie. I've never seen it walked and I'm home most times. If they go out (they both work PT) it's put out into the garden where it cries at the door.

I know someone complained to some authority once before as they wrote a pa message on our local area facebook page, saying that the dog is well cared for thank you very much.

So do staffies need walking? Or are they happy indoors? I'm not a dog person, and presumably this isn't enough maltreatment for whoever they were reported to to have done anything?

Does it have a kennel with bedding where it can go if it's cold or wet? Do they leave it plenty of fresh water?

There's a water bowl by the door and a shed he can go in. Don't know what's in the shed.

Moreover, if it's crying at the back door every time it's left outside while they're at work, it's distressed at being left in the garden alone.

Poor doggle. He sniffs noses with our cat through the fence to say hello.

I take my dogs out at 2am/3am/4am - they're working dogs, and as I work nights with them, they either get walked around sites I'm on, or walked at those times of the night on my nights off, because my sleeping pattern isn't the norm. I think its unreasonable to say that this dog isn't ever walked - you can't possibly 'watch' your neighbours 24/7. If you do, you need to get a life !!!

Do you and your husband spend all waking hours with your nose pressed against the window watching your neighbours?Confused

I know someone who has what she calls a House Dog. He has never left the house and small garden. When I expressed surprise she said it's quite normal and the dog is happy as they all love him.
This isn't actually as bad as shutting your dog in a cage all night and most of every day then saying it's fine because dog gets a 10 minute walk in the mornings before they leave for work.

Ha, no - but from where I work most of the day I get all the on foot traffic going past.

Have you read my posts where of course I admit of course I can't be 100% sure?! And even if they told me they have a 'house dog' there's apparently nothing I could do about it?

Well it's a life isn't it Orange ... I agree probably better than a dog stuck in a cage as you describe.

Our cat isn't allowed outside of our garden, and others think that's cruel. But I think a dog has a greater need for exercise than a cat..

Do you talk to your neighbours, could you not just enquire under the guise of you getting a dog. ' Hey can you give me some tips lovely horridneighbours were do you walk fido, is he expensive to feed etc...'

CaraAspen · 08/01/2017 20:59

Call the RSPCA anonymously.

Daisyfrumps · 08/01/2017 21:07

Do you talk to your neighbours

We try not to! They're known in the neighbourhood as being bullies. They threatened someone on our property too.

just forget about it OP. It doesnt sound like theres anything you can do, and youre best not to get involved. Its just a dog that doesnt get walked enough

BabychamSocialist · 09/01/2017 15:49

Please don't call the RSPCA - they're arseholes who don't care about animals at all, in my experience.
