Vacuum gave up over Christmas so need to replace it ASAP.

Oh too late! When that one dies, OP, get a HenryWink

NotTheMrMenAgain · 06/01/2017 17:50

Op, definitely don't buy anything with a cord - once you go cordless you'll never go back! I'm aware that sounds a bit pathetic but I'm really not joking....

The GTech AirRam is fabulous - no cord, no bag, great suction, super lightweight and easy to maneuvere (so fairly young children can easily be trained to use it! Grin)

Our previous Vax had strong suction but was heavy and cumbersome and the stairs were a faff. I feel down the stairs while using it, so it had to go.......

Since we've had an AirRam four family/friends have tried it and bought one too. You've really got to try it to appreciate it.

Don't be put off by the seemingly small size of the dust/dirt compartment, the air rams it down into a little bundle so you don't have to empty it very often.

Also, the related multi-tool device is great for vaccuming literally anything - it has a light so you can see the dust you're sucking up (oddly satisfying).

Vaccuming used to be one of my most loathed housework tasks but is done much more frequently now because it's so much quicker and easier.

The customer service is really good too. When mine started making a funny noise because I accidentally sucked up something I shouldn't have
they said it was their fault because the vac should automatically stop in that situation and essentially just sent a new vac (I had to attach my old handle onto the new other parts). Can't fault that. I did do a really good job of making the noise down the phone to the customer services person though......

We recently got a Hoover Breeze and really like it. I only like upright Hoovers, and it wasn't too expensive. And fairly light too

TheFullMinty · 06/01/2017 17:52

Henry all the way...wasted loads of cash on bloody dysons before I discovered them.

TheFairyCaravan · 06/01/2017 17:55

I came on to say a Shark OP. That's what we're having next.

We've just bought a Vax stick Hoover so I can whip it round when DH isn't here, it sucks up far better than our Dyson.

ddubsgirl77 · 06/01/2017 17:56

Waiting for my Henry to be delivered-got a vax at the mo and got it for £89 in sale for half price so thought 89 was bloody good 1st one lasted 3 days took it back and had to fight argos to exchange it as they said we had to go through vax and to be honest it's shit,it blocks up so easy and then just blows crap out the bottom, will never buy vax again

FourToTheFloor · 06/01/2017 18:11

Think I'm going to go for the same OP. I've never had an upright vac though. Feels....weird?!

Wondering though if a Dyson upright cordless is better?

I just can't believe I'm spending about as much time researching vacuum cleaners as I did buying a house Blush

VerbenaGirl · 06/01/2017 18:18

We love our Miele. Much better than the Dyson we has previously. Did also try out an Electrolux cordless in our local electrical shop recently, and really liked the feel of that - and cordless appeals. Happy choosing!

JoeyJoeJoeJuniorShabadu · 06/01/2017 18:57

He falls over like a drunken sailor and he has that smug face that makes me want to smack him

Mari50 · 06/01/2017 19:35

Meile cat and dog, they had them in currys before Christmas for half price, almost bought one for a spare as they are great. I've had mine 10 years and it's still going great.

Anononoo · 06/01/2017 19:38

Vorwerk if you have the money!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/01/2017 19:41

Miele- cheapest cylinder will be better than anything else.

Henry is shit!

granof3 · 06/01/2017 20:15

G-Tech Air Ram. Over the years I have had numerous vacuums G-Tech beats them all. Had it over 3 years now, fab customer service replaced parts like filters the lid and handle all really cheaply and quickly. It easily cleans up the hairs from my freakishly hairy old dog brilliantly.

LegoLady95 · 06/01/2017 20:17

I hate pushing the weight of an upright, so bought a Henry many years ago. I would definitely buy another. However if you prefer uprights then you would hate one I guess!

PickAChew · 06/01/2017 22:56

I never understand how people find cylinder vacs easier, legolady.

My Sebo upright is a heavy beast, but practically pushes itself. I just need to gently stroll around the room with it, no bending or stretching involved, which is great for me because I have HMS. I'm lucky if I can stand up straight after using a cylinder vac.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/01/2017 23:23

Uprights are SO heavy! You don't have to bend at all with a Miele cylinder as the pole is rigid.

bluebell34567 · 06/01/2017 23:35

how people recommend cordless ones I don't understand.
its charge finishes after 20mins which isn't enough to vacuum all house. they look like they are a bit bigger version of hand held vacuum cleaners which have the same charged time.

bluebell34567 · 06/01/2017 23:36

I never liked the uprights as their heads are big to do corners, etc. and you cant push them under the beds, etc.

bluebell34567 · 06/01/2017 23:37

miele looks nice but very expensive.

Orangebird69 · 06/01/2017 23:38

Miele Cat and Dog.

KayTee87 · 06/01/2017 23:47

Henry and hetty!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/01/2017 23:50

Interesting I need a new vacuum too mine has finally given up

I shall look out for sales would like a Miele but can't really afford more than £80

OytheBumbler · 07/01/2017 00:01

I've had my Miele Cat and dog for over 15 years and it's still going strong. It's outlasted a couple of pets and has now met its match in my long-haired border collie. It will hoover the hair up but it clogs the rotors so I scrape the hair up first then hoover afterwards.

I defy any vacuum to hoover up my dog's hair! I still recommend the Miele thoughSmile

NeedsAsockamnesty · 07/01/2017 00:31

I break the gtech air Rams, so now have the air ram k9 it's a fair bit stronger.

The only problem with them is edges they do not do them very well but they are better by miles than any other cordless around and have a long battery charge.

I do not do cleaning but I have a odd fondness for vacuuming and vacuum cleaners so like to mess around with them when I'm bored ( much to the annoyance of the people who do my cleaning) I also like pretending I work on a shopping channel and doing demos in my hallway, as a result of my messing I have come up with the following

Dysons are all shit they don't work very well they are badly designed and feel weird in your hands especially the cordless
Miele cat and dog is famtastic but smells a bit odd if you leave it running ages
Anything by Vorwerk will be brilliant and last for eternity it feels nice when you use it does not smell weird
Samsung the bit that holds the roller on gets jammed fairly easily
Henry as disappointing as this sounds may be good company but unless you buy the turbo head is rubbish but the turbo head does not like chunky bits
Vax does not pick up tiny bits of paper.
I quite liked the shark one it passed the talc to cat liter test well

NotTheMrMenAgain · 07/01/2017 11:23

NeedsASock for the edges you need the GTech multi-tool - it's fab and has a fine selection of attachments, brushes and nozzles for all sorts of nooks and crannies.
