Sharenting

I have a friend on Facebook who has always been a shared a lot on all forms of social media so, Facebook, Instagram, snapchat etc, even before becoming a mother, however now that she has a child she shares more than several times a day, photographs of this child's every move. As this child nears school age I feel more and more concerned that this is a breach of this child's right to privacy. The friend and the child's father have separated, I am concerned that this could be used against her in a custody battle. Thoughts please? AIBU to think that a child has the right not to have phographs and videos plastered over every form of social media on a daily basis?

I think in a year or two the tabloids will be all over this topic

Or as soon as you write your article...

Putting normal everyday pictures of your child on facebook is not going to be the cause of a custody toing and froing its sharing your life and family that is what facebook etc is for daily drivel. Your own personal view on social media is clouding your judgement although i do think there is oversharers but it is their SM to over share on.

You can choose whether or not to share photos of yourself, OP, and when this child grows up he or she will be able to do the same. Meanwhile, his or her care is the responsibility of the parents and they are entitled to share pictures if they want to.

I think it's important the privacy settings are sensible- friends only. I have pointed it out to people who shared a photo of her toddler in a paddling pool on 'public'.
This is how things are now.
