Hi everyone (or bonjour!! Wink)

So I'm going to Paris later this week, and was wondering if you had any ideas on what sights to see or activities to do while I'm there?

There's obviously all of the very well-known sights to see like the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe (hoping to try and go up it while I'm there!!), Sacré Coeur, but I'd be really interested to hear if you have any other ideas on what to see please? Particularly the less well known parts of Paris, or hidden gems :)

Thank you!! :)

Happy birthday OP! Get some more rest and see how you feel later. Cake
Yes yes to birthday cocktails at the mandarin oriental SmileSmile I've heard alcohol is a great anti septic if you've got a poorly threat??

Happy birthday! I think with throaty headachey things sometimes staying horizontal in bed doesn't help. I'd go out for a little walk and see how you feel after that.

PamplemousseRouge · 07/01/2017 14:21

Thank you so much Choco and Zou! :) I'm feeling a bit better so a walk definitely sounds good! :)

Just a quick Paris update on how things are going :) spent most of the day in bed, then ventured out in the evening for dinner - had an amazing cassoulet at a little restaurant near the Place Vendôme, then saw the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero and now having late night hot chocolate and champagne (as you do Wink) at the Café de Flore!! Fairly overpriced, but definitely worth it for the hot chocolate!! :)

The sewers are fantastic if you get chance. The cemetery and Pompidou are amazing.

Our favourite discoveries are La Concierge which is part of the Saint-Chapelle a few doors up but people don't realise they're all part of the same medieval palace. The Fondation Le Corbusier is good if you like modernist stuff.

Thanks Babycham! :)

Bonsoir pamplemousse!

How is Paris treating you?

PamplemousseRouge · 09/01/2017 23:22

Bonsoir!! :) it's incredible! :) I went to the Sainte-Chapelle and Notre Dame today, which were both amazing, and had hot chocolate at Angelina (best hot chocolate I've ever had!) Went to an evening mass at the Sacré-Cœur tonight just to see what it was like, and on my way back, came across a tiny bar in Montmartre where the singer Jacques Brel started out :) I'll put up some photos if you like :)

oh you are making me sigh with longing. I took my (then 10) daughter to Paris last Easter and we had such an amazing time. We stayed in Monmartre and watched Amelie the first night we were there. We did a lot of wandering - in fact the exact Notre Dame - Hotel de Ville - Louvre - Tuileries - Concorde - Invalides - Eiffel Tower - that was suggested above. We also managed a day trip to Parc Asterix. We did a perfume wander which was sublime (I'm obsessed with niche perfumes), ate fantastic meals... I will remember it as a really magical trip. I enjoyed every second of it and wish I could do it all again this year.

I'm loving the pictures. I'm so glad you are having a wonderful time.

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't posted for a while! I got back from Paris this morning - miss it so much already!!!! Sad

I had an incredible hot chocolate from Dalloyau yesterday Smile just thought I should let you know in case you're visiting Paris or live in Paris! There's quite a few in Paris - there's one on the Rue Faubourg St Honoré and by the Jardin Du Luxembourg (the one I went to).

And in response to some of the other posters who've written here about security checks, they had police checking bags and coats in loads of shops I went into as well. It felt quite strange! Obviously, I understand completely why they're doing it, and it is really important!

Ahh I'm hoping I'll get to go back to Paris soon Sad

Anyone currently living or staying in Paris with tales about Paris to cheer me up?

J'habite ici, I've been in Paris for ten years, and think I'll be here for the forseable future.

SusanneLinder · 14/01/2017 10:49

I think your plan of dividing into areas is good. Dont underestimate just walking around and people watching though. Ile de Cite and area near Sacre Couer is particularly great for that.
I have been to Paris 7 times now. Champs de Elysees has become a bit run down last time I was there ( couple of years back). I would mainly say, dont eat there. It is over priced crap for tourists, however by accident we found a lovely restaurant on the Louis Vuitton side and they did an amazing Fixed Price menu for about 16/17 euros inc wine. Lovely. DD still raves about that meal.
Apart from that, I wouldnt eat anywhere near a major tourist area.
It is always worth a metro ride to Montparnasse. Tower is great and its IMO a great place for a stroll.

SusanneLinder · 14/01/2017 10:51

Ooops sorry, didnt realise you had gone. Sounds like you had a fab time xx

PamplemousseRouge · 16/01/2017 09:17

Thanks Susanne! :) I really wanted to visit the Montparnasse Tower, but didn't manage to this time. Definitely next time :)
