AIBU to take the Christmas decorations down early? (Light-hearted)

I have someone coming to replace a ceiling on Thursday (12 day of Christmas). AIBU to take the Christmas decorations down beforehand so that they don't get lost/dusty? Is it bad luck to bring them down early, like it is late?

I always take mine down on New Year's Eve. I like to start the new year clean and clutter-free. No catastrophe has yet befallen me.

I thought it was bad luck to leave them up after 12th night, not take them down before?

I thought this too, we took ours down today. Shit, have I ruined my year? 😭

Ours came down yesterday. As much as I love them its nice to have a table to set my cup of tea on again and have somewhere to plug in my charger.

My wise old nan always told me that you must leave just one decoration up until 6th January (but never any later or the sky will fall in).

Otherwise take em down whenever you like. Our tree came down today, bits n bats will be away tomorrow and we will eat the rest of the Christmas choccies together on Friday Xmas Grin

Ours went New Year's Day!

Even my mum who has always kept them up until 12th night has taken hers down.

I was brought up that it was bad luck for the decorations to come down any day except 12th night. As an adult I revolted and got them down when we got fed up and had time to do it. We have had some bad luck but I am almost certain it wasn't related to our timings in Christmas decoration removalWink

I would have happily got rid on the 27th this year!!

DH took ours down (I'm not there at the moment and my DParents-where I'm visiting- don't do any decorations)

I'll have my hanger space from the landing over the stairwell for my drying.
And the space near the radiator will be freed up (where the tree sits)

I am very superstitious, but we always aim for NYD to de-Christmas.
Except the cake which will hang about till Feb, and Christmas loo-roll. This year The Snowman&Snowdog.

My parents would kill me if I took mine down before the twelfth night, but I've taken most of them down and will just leave a few around my window to keep them happy. and to ensure a lucky year

Took mine down this morning. DH's car wouldn't start this afternoon!!!! Needs a new battery apparently. I'm sure the two things are not related in any way!!! Smile

Another one for New Year's Day.

I thought it was unlucky if you kept them up past the 12th night.

icanteven · 03/01/2017 16:37

Took mine down on the 28th.

Teddy1970 · 03/01/2017 17:06

Mine came down today, I usually do them on the 2nd Jan but DD wanted me to take them down when she went back to school today so she didn't have to witness it! I love Christmas, but it is nice getting back to normal.

AmserGwin · 04/01/2017 08:09

I took mine down on the 30th Dec

middlings · 04/01/2017 08:14

Ours came down on Monday. I said to DH, I almost like taking them down more than putting them up. Ours go up in the second week in December. It looks clean!! And uncluttered!! I feel like I've hoovered my brain. Loving it.
