AIBU to ask for a GP appointment today for this?

My surgery does on the day appointments only. Today is going to be manic as they were shut yesterday. They are also not opening phone lines until 9am when it's usually 8.30am.

My right foot is swollen - the top of my foot from the end of my toes to just before my ankle. It looks like I've burnt my foot in hot water or something. There's a perfect red mark on the top of my foot - ankle, sides and toes are normal colour and size - and it's all tight, like when you get sunburn, but it's not sunny, I've not burned it on water and I've not fallen or twisted or anything.

It's not painful, but I've had to take my slipper off because of the swelling so I'm wondering what I do if it keeps going? Or what could possibly have caused it.

I have absolutely no idea what has caused it. I know they'll be struggling for appointments today, but I'm a bit alarmed. It wasn't swollen/red at 5am when I got up (thanks to the baby the day starts early) and I've done nothing to it.

The other thing putting me off going is that I have a cold. I don't want the Dr to think that's why I'm there (it's not that bad, asthma is controlled - absolutely no need ot see them about it) and nor do I want to pass it on.

WTF could it be??

mountainpeaks the lack of a registrar will be because the training places haven't been filled. We used to get an ST1 and an ST3 (first and 3rd year trainee GPs) but we are lucky to get one or the other now as no one wants to do general practice anymore.
I've been on social media today and my English counterpart GPs are collapsing with the excessive workload. It's awful. I'm back to work tomorrow.

OP I hope you have been seen xx

Just as an aside, who in their right mind goes to the doctor just because they have a cold?! I understand that if you have a compromised immune system, are very elderly or very young you would, but most normally healthy adults wouldn't bother, surely? If my doctor's receptionist thought I was trying to wrangle an appointment for a cold by saying I had something else wrong,I would be most annoyed and insulted!

Lots of people Janey I'm afraid I'm one of those annoying people who now has to book an appointment when ive got a cold (obviously not the odd sniffle nut when it worsens it goes on my chest - I'm asthmatic and the last time I thought 'no one goes in with a bad cold', it had turned into a chest infection and I ended up in Resus Blush

I do know what you mean though, I once (chest infection again - bloody asthma) ws waiting in the doctors waiting room when two women managed to wangle an appointment because one had an unexplained rash that had appeared suddenly and a headache they couldn't shift - they spent the entire wait for the appointment moaning to the receptionists that they were overrunning and they had places to be, going backwards and forwards to the local shop next door for hangover cures Lucozade and crisps etc, continually on the phone to tell their friends they scored last night and they were SO hungover/never drinking again / but are you still coming out again tonight mate? They were consequently told it was nothing and to keep am eye on it / come back if symptoms change / get worse and that was it.

Apparently they have to see them with the symptoms they 'present' with and although clearly there was little wrong with them at the time, the docs would have been in trouble if they'd (rightly in my eyes, ) refused to see them and something then happened.

Thanks everyone. Finally home from A&E - it's been a long day!

It's cellulitis. There's no obvious bite or anything, but I do occasinally get eczema so the Dr said it probably came from that.

I also have a chest infection and got a bollocking for not realising/seeing the Dr sooner, but tbh my peak flow hang warranted it.

Originally they wanted me to stay in because of the chest, but they didn't have a bed I could stay in with the baby and so I'm home after the family sorted a rota so I can basically sleep for the next few days.

He also thinks my grumbling frozen shoulder might be gallbladder related? I'm not sure about that as I've had the frozen shoulder on and off for years! But he said he'll note it for the GP and the go can organise tests/go over the results of the million tests I've had today.

Anyway, I'm home, I have a mountain of antibiotics and I probably need a blood transfusion because I had every test known to man!

Thanks everyone

Flowers very glad you went. Sleep lots.

ophiotaurus · 03/01/2017 21:10

Glad you got seen and know what's up.
Take care of yourself. When I was on antibiotics for cellulitis they really wiped me out.
Hope you have a speedy recovery Flowers

SquinkiesRule · 03/01/2017 21:12

Thank goodness for that. So glad you went to A&E

CaroleService · 03/01/2017 21:31

The GP would probably have sent you to A&E anyway - at least, that's what happened with my mum over new Year for the same thing.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 03/01/2017 21:33

You should have been seen by a GP today.

It's a fucking shame the way they operate.

MrsKCastle · 03/01/2017 21:39

Glad you have been seen and have got antibiotics.

lalalalyra · 03/01/2017 22:18

carole when I mentioned the GP the A&E doc said that if have been sent to them anyway.

It doesn't make the appointment faff easier but my first instinct was A&E and then I talked myself out of it so I need to try s d trust myself a bit more.

I'm just hoping it doesn't get any worse as DH is away tomorrow. BIL is fab but it's going to be manic until the au pair is back (she's some sort of witch - she makes mornings calm and fun and sings songs instead of yelling and it actually works! No idea how!)

Sorry for the spelling/grammar. I can't get used to this new phone at all

KitKat1985 · 04/01/2017 09:54

How are you today OP?

lalalalyra · 04/01/2017 12:09

Feeling absolutely grim today. In bed, propped up and watching tv. Amazing BIL has dealt with all of the bigger kids. DD3 is still recovering from her op so we're having a quiet day of chilling out (well as much as a 5 month old chills out).

Thanks again for all the help yesterday.

It's not easy trying to recover while looking after a baby too, hopefully you start to feel better soon.

KitKat1985 · 04/01/2017 17:48

Sorry you feel rough today. Hope you feel better soon. x
