Not to sure if I should call 111 or not. Heart rate. Normally 80 has gone to 160 at resting. Am quite stressed at moment. Also have PoTS. When that flares up heart rate normally dose t go above 120. Am light headed have fainted once feel faint. And have bad palpatations. But I have DCs at home, I hate doctors am at a loss really. But not to sure if doctors needed for heart rate (hence AIBU) don't no what to do.

Yes, go. It ought to be under 100.

rogertherabbit · 02/01/2017 21:49

I would still go. Could be sinus but you need to find out if it's an abnormal tachycardia. Sod's law it'll probably stop when you get there but I think you should go in

HRHlikeahornyponywould · 02/01/2017 21:56

I had a SVT episode yesterday.
I just needed to get my legs higher than my head, which puts it back to normal.
I get them when I'm tired stressed or hot.

By the time, I've been to hospital, it has stopped. I have never fainted though

ColdFeetinWinter · 02/01/2017 21:56

My DD has POTS and this sort of tachycardia is common when she's under the weather.

It's neither SVT or AF. It's a sinus tachycardia with her and her POTS

Are you well in yourself? Are palpitations normal for you? I appreciate your reluctance to go to hospital but I think you should get checked out. Phone 111 and talk to them?

ColdFeetinWinter · 02/01/2017 21:58

Have you got a good friend who can stay with the kids?

serialtester · 02/01/2017 21:59

Go. 146 is still too high. I've been red carded into resuss with a sustained heart rate of 130 and in a second episode with a heart rate of 160. That one earned me a blue light ambulance ride. You need an ecg and blood tests and you need them tonight.

Blossomdeary · 02/01/2017 21:59

For goodness sake stop farting around and do as you are bid. Why ask for advice if you do not want to act on it? I just don't get it. Do you want your children to wake up to a sick (or worse) mother lying on the floor?

I have had it made clear to me on many occasions that neither I not my OH (who happens to be a doctor) should delay seeking help when heart rate speeds up to abnormal rate and does not revert quickly.

Ibloodyhatethomasthetankengine · 02/01/2017 22:02

Just go to A&E.

Your anxiety is making this much worse and this is Mumsnet, not the doctors surgery. No one here can give you answers.

Just go to A&E.

Tequilamockinbird · 02/01/2017 22:04

Agree with the others, call 999.

I have WPW and have a very high resting heart rate, but it's still nowhere near 160. If it was at 160, I'd be ringing 999 straight away.

beggingbehind · 02/01/2017 22:11

Ringing round friends now to sit with DC

Another HCP here saying go to A&E. How long do you think your heart can keep this up before getting stressed and tired?
Please seek immediate medical help!

Klaphat · 02/01/2017 23:15

Klaphat lying flat drops your heart rate if you have PoTS and that's the reason your heart rate increased. I have read the thread, thanks.

How high ranking a medical professional are you that you think it's appropriate to give advice that goes against advice given by doctors on the thread?

ColdFeetinWinter · 02/01/2017 23:38

Tbf none of the Drs has mentioned the POTS. It's a poorly understood and little known condition. Tachycardia is normal for PoTSs and often self managed with salts, lying flat etc. See picture for best description of how normal a tachycardia of 160 can be. However palpitations and prolonged despite self help suggests a visit to A&E.

I hope they reassure you OP and you don't have a grim visit.

POTS

catwoman0815 · 02/01/2017 23:54

definitely get seen. I was twice admitted to hospital with 160bpm. Had beta blockers via injection and a host of tests (nothing found). Doctors were rather concerned.

WhereDoesThisRoadGo · 03/01/2017 00:48

Have you been sorted? 160 is extremely high at any age... I am 32 and that would be my HR at a gentle jog after about 30 mins, 146 on a gentle cycle. My point is, regardless of your health issues, this does sound concerning so I would get it looked at as a matter of urgency.

reallybadidea

Actually it isn't, it's normally slower but that isn't helping the OP who I hope is back to normal with or without medical intervention.

beggingbehind · 03/01/2017 09:26

Rang 111. They wanted to send ambulance. I went a&e (friend drove) as i new ambulance were on black alertt. Got into waiting area who said there was a wait of 2-3 hours just to be triaged. Slower than 160 or slower than a normal resting heart rate?

Well done OP, hope you're home soon

Blossomdeary · 03/01/2017 18:36

Good news - I am so glad that you are getting proper care. I know what a blooming nuisance it all is; but better safe than sorry when you have little ones relying on you.

I cannot tell you how annoying it is when I have to drive OH in to A&E, but I always do!

CockacidalManiac · 03/01/2017 18:37

Rang 111. They wanted to send ambulance.

How very 111 of them!
