Many of the posts I read on here there's always one smug annoying git pops up saying "this has got the Daily Mail written all over it".

Enough already.

Funnily enough, I am not a DM reader, but I don't think anyone has the right to look down on anyone else because of the paper they happen to read.
I do not feel my views are superior or obviously right and don't feel the need to remind everyone else how right my views are at every opportunity.

Bitofacow · 02/01/2017 12:45

Whyam you are just being a snob about Mirror readers.

Ldnmum2015 · 02/01/2017 12:59

I agree with bakeoffbiscuits, the dv thread was splashed all over the paper, in a light hearted way and I too believe that the poster in question could of been identifiable, thereby putting them in a worse situation.

cathf · 02/01/2017 13:01

But they could have been identified through MN too.

Sparklingbrook · 02/01/2017 13:04

Yes it doesn't matter which bit of the internet you post on, it's in the public domain and therefore open to being identified. It's all the same.

cathf · 02/01/2017 13:06

Exactly Sparkling, I don't get why this is so difficult to understand.

Ldnmum2015 · 02/01/2017 13:07

But the daily mail, sensationalised it and attracts a lot more readers, also I thought that they would of had to get permission, and also most articles that appear in magazines usually change the details, especially for domestic violence victims

whyamiawake · 02/01/2017 13:08

I have not passed comment or opinion on any papers or the people who read them. I have not said whether I am for or against the daily mail. Flowers

I feel that as the DM do have a tenancy to lift stories from here quite often there's no harm in reminding people that anything they post online can be taken and used (especially when the DM are lurking about).

whyamiawake · 02/01/2017 13:10

Yes it doesn't matter which bit of the internet the public domain and therefore open to being identified. It's all the same.

Exactly.

OP posts:
whyamiawake · 02/01/2017 13:10

Cats I understand that but I don't feel that is always the genuine reason people say it.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 02/01/2017 13:11

No permission is needed.

cathf · 02/01/2017 13:13

I agree whyam and sparkling.
I think a lot if the time it's just creating drama for drama's sake.
But then that could be said of most if AIBU!

Ldnmum2015 · 02/01/2017 13:14

Having said that, the posters do know it is public domain, so I guess its up to them not to give to many details, just really shocked me with the dv one, as its a very sensitive matter, even if the posters wasn't identifiable there may be other readers with similar stories, with paranoid partners, so who knows how much trouble this has caused.

CheeseFiend36 · 02/01/2017 19:20

It's not rocket science whyamiawake; DM Online has a huge online readership and therefore there is a much greater chance of someone reading the story and identifying a situation with somebody that they know of.
I don't think MNers need reminding that it's a public forum and that everyone can read it, yes I know that. however where I might tell a story about my mum, she won't see it if it's on munsnet, I would bet my house that she doesn't even know what mumsnet is. Does she read DM Online though? Unfortunately she does

whyamiawake · 02/01/2017 19:23

Yes. Again, I don't think that is always the reason why people write it. See above ^
